I just ordered the 4.7L HO cams , parts numbers are 53021411 and 53021412. These are listed as 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Powertech 4.7L HO.

PRICE : $75.00 EACH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you all want these cams you'd better order soon. There are only about 5 sets left in the country today AND the price is probably a mistake and will be corrected at some point. My parts manager says they should be priced around $200 each !!

Per CW's info the lift spec are:

I .500" E .443" HO model (265hp)
I .429" E .440" Stock (230hp)

Duration is unknown at this point.

Oh BTW I goofed on the intake lift. The specs from the manual are .475" lift intake and .429" exahust. Stock are .440" intake and .429" exhaust. Duration very simular between the two. Worked well on my truck guess we will see if it works on your truck Matt. Still a desent jump on the intake side. Hope they work as well for you as they did for me. If your truck reacts like mine did expect more bottem end and with the cat removed to be able to rev to 5500 no problem.

Thats ok, the intake lift is probably more important. There was no change on the Exhaust at all??? Do you have the Duration specs?
For $150 investment its not that bad. Really you can't buy anything for $150 anymore and expect results!

I'll strap it to the dyno and we'll know the results !!

I would have to get the duration specs from work. It may be hard to belive but I did testing to be as accurate as I possibly could. Everything was very simular temp, weather conditions, launch, IAT adjustment. I don't guarentee it will get 2 to three tenths on anyone elses truck. Matt will only be the second person I know of just to change the cams alone and not do anything else ast the same time. He will be able to tell if it works on his.

Like you say the Matt, you really can't buy much for 150. Worth a try IMO. You are a more experienced drag racer than me and will be able to tell if they help at all.

CW, thanks for the info. To be honest you I really don't put much faith in 1/4 mile times, just too many variables, but you can probably say yes it will improve times, or no it won't. From your testing it looks like there is going to be improvement. About the only way to nail down the HP increase is dyno testing. Luckily I have some good dyno numbers for my truck, and I have a dyno shop which is very close by.
If you can CW, see if you can get the duration for the 2 cams, and check on the cylinder head valve sizes HO vs stock.

Thanks for the info !!

Matt

I am sure that the valve sizes are the same and I will look up the duration specs as well. Personaly I think it was worth it just for the added power down low. It is more fun to drive on the street now.

True, I can't imagine a new casting for the HO model. I too would be surprised if there were any differences. Thanks in advanced for the duration specs.

I got the specs.
Intake
lift .472" VS .443"
duration 236° VS 243°
The overlap is a mear 18°

exhaust
lift .429" reg 4.7 same
duration 250°

Exhaust and intake size are the same between engines. The intake duration is advertized as less but like I say my truck seems to like it.

If you are using the part #'s from this post you will need to add the letter A to one part number and B to the other at the end of the number.
CW, is ther any difference between the throttle bodies?

chris

Thanks for looking that up CW ! Interesting that they lowered the duration. This may explain the improved low end, although a 7° change is'nt much.

Slightly lower duration and increased lift. I didn't notice and top end loss at all and like I say it helps you get out of the hole better.

I haven't jumped into the 4.7 on my 2000 Dakota yet... does Daimler Chrylser use any torque to yield or non-reusable fasteners in their engines? I am seriously considering the cam swap - just want to make sure I don't have any unforseen expenses other than gaskets and the cams. I know I should buy a book but... what are the chances somebody could supply me with the torque specs?

Also, what else is different in the new HO 4.7 besides the cams? Does it have a revised brain that works better with the new internals? Just curious if they did any exhaust or cat modifications. My trucks oomph has remained stock for too long - it's time to dig in.

Thanks,

They use a lot of torque to yield and torque to angle specs. I can fax you the pages for the cam swap out fo the factory manual, but I am slammed at the office. Give me a few days, then e-mail me. truck_nut@hotmail.com

Jeeps only other POWER PRODUCING mods are the computer and the cams. Every other difference in the HO motor is for strength.

No rush Chris... I've got a couple other projects that could use my attention. When you get some time let me know. Also, does anyone have any dyno numbers that they can post in regards to the CAM swap. I need to be making more power before the current max output for towing reasons.

Thanks,

Jeff @ PLC
