I am looking for some support here....
I have a 98 cc 5.2 2wd with:
Flowmaster 50/cutout before cat
Ram Air Setup
IAT
M1 intake
Trans-Go
3.55 posi...soon upgraded to 4.10
My roommate owns a 1982 Chevy Full size 3/4 ton 4WD and is rebuilding a 350 small block that will make (what he says) close to 325 HP. The guys who are helping him rebuild the motor say that his truck will beat mine in the 1/4. To me, it isnt even a question, but all those Chevy guys seem to think that he will win. I have already told him that I have $200 that says I win.....He seems to think that his gears (stock 4.10 or 4.11) will pull ahead of me.
When the race happens, I will have either 1.7 rollers OR a Comp Cam, 4.10, and a Mopar PCM...All of this he knows....Please tell him that he is wrong....Thanks

You would have the advantage cause he has the 4X4. He will have tremendous drivetrain loss, so he won't be pushing too many horses to the rear wheel. Go with the roller rockers and the PCM. You will get a gain of about 30hp. Though he would be pushing 325 flywheel hp, his weight and the fact he has a 4X4 will hinder his performance. My gues is that his truck is jacked up. In that case......you own him

I've raced a neon before, not sure what mods he had, but anyways I won not buy much maybe a car length or two, but a win is a win. Not to mention I have a 4x4

No way a 325 HP 350 chevy in a older, full size, 3/4 ton, 4x4, pickup will beat any v-8 2wd Dakota. Even if you make 100 HP less then him you will be a good 1500-2000 pounds lighter, with probably 200 pounds in the rotating assembly less. That weight loss alone is worth over 2 seconds. If he runs a 28-29" tall tire like you he can take advantage of those 4.11's but I bet he has 31's or taller which means he would need 4.56 or better gears to equal your 4.10 on 29" tall tires. So I say race him on the 1/4 mile pavement and take his money. Make sure that 325 hp doesn't not take into account a 150 HP nitros shot first! Even then you'd have a chance against a 6000 pound 4x4 brick, or rock, or whatever...

hey KenDawg: Neons are fairly quick, but not too quick. My wife has a 95 Highline and a friend of mine has a 96 Base. I've raced them both and completely smoked them. Raced my friend at a stop light and my wife at the freeway onramp (she knows how to go fast). Both cars are automatics, which is not the best setup, but so is my truck and mine is also a 4x4.
Hey Cerecke: it should be a good race, but you may hold a slight edge if you go through with the mods. Let us know!

The mods are a definate...The only gray area is the choice between the 1.7's and the Comp cam. Price isnt going to be an issue(because Im still young and am allowed to do "stupid" stuff with my money) but the time issue is. From what I gather, the effect is essentially the same...what do you guys think. I know that the cam/RR issue has been discussed a lot, but for One more time, what should I do....1.7's or a cam.
Thanks a lot

One more thing. I might as well throw some headers on. Even though they won't give any noticable increase in power, the ones in Summit are 160 bucks.....what the hell then right? I figure you only have so many years to have fun......It took me a while to figure that out....My dad has MS, he went from being the Superman tough guy to the guy who has to take things slow...very slow sometimes. Not to be a downer of a story, Just my way of telling y'all to live each day like its your last....and drive like it too :)

Personally I'd go with the 1.7's. Much easier to install. On the headers, they really help top end. I haven't noticed a whole lot of difference down low.
