Just a thought and a question......

when you are on the gas the throttle body
sucks in air from the air filter correct?

What if.... when you get on the gas and
instead of the engine having to suck air
what if there is air already flowing into
tube kinda forcing its way in.

Do you think that would add some HP? Kinda
like a ram air i guess.

Or like 4" ac tubing running into your air intake
from underneath the truck.... kinda like a force of cold air...

i dont know if you understand me or not.....

Just running a cold air intake or "ram air" hood isn't going to get you those gains that you are looking for. ANy performance gains from those are going to be because of the cooler air entering the engine. What you are looking for is boost. Now the easiest way to get boost is with a turbo or supercharger but you can also get it from a ram air setup. Now ram air i believe(someone correct me please if i'm off on this) delivers approx 1 pound of boost for every 100mph that the air is entering the engine. So while it does make a difference when going extremely fast at high RPM's it's not something that will help light to light races IMO.

So according to your statement if I go 900 mph I may have enough boost to beat a lightning? LOL Just kidding.

so your sayin its a bad idea
to put the 4" tubes directy to
my intake? I have a 3.9L and i
was thinking of running two 4"
one on each foglight opening and
having them flow into like a y pipe
then from there into my air intake
home brew that i have set up.

It will gain you some power (maybe 5 hp), but don't forget to put an air filter in your system somewhere. Can't go running straight air into the engine and have it last very long.

When I first changed my air cleaner I used the 14" round type, good performance but still did not help to much. So I swithched to a 97 TB hat, ordered a piece of 3" silcone 45, and air cleaner, some mendral bent tube from the local rice shop. The air cleaner sits right in front of the grill where that worthless fact ducting used to be. "Runs a whole lot better" and when your speed increases so does the ram air affect. As in the issue of acully getting a pound of boost, in certain applications it has been accomplished but there are to many variables, air temp, alltitude, how well the system is sealed etc..

Actually, you're not "on the gas" on a lot of the newer vehicles. You're on the "air pedal" (gas is controlled by the injectors/sensors/PCM...not the pedal. ;)

This ain't no carburetor anymore. LOL

(Ok...had to say that.)

On the "Ram Air" subject, the more bends you put in the system...the less "ram" effect you have and the higher speed required to compensate for the extra bends. Consider it "Cold Air Induction".
