Subject: Which Mod First?

Message:
I have a ’99 R/T that is almost stock. It has a K&N replacement filter (not the whole kit), and a Flowmaster exhaust. Other than that it is stock.
I was wondering what are the best performance mods to do first. I’m not that worried about cost (I don’t mind spending $500 or more). Mainly I am wondering about the order of mods to do. Is it good to do headers first, roller rockers, t-stat, ignition coil, etc.? I heard that it is not good to get a cam if you plan to get a supercharger later since they s-charger will need a specific cam to work right. I would like to do the s-charger later, but not right away. I want to do other smaller mods first that will help get the most out of the s-charger whenever I do decide to get one.
Also, what is a good (emissions legal) cam, heads, headers, and roller rockers to buy?

I would recommend opening the exhaust in the front and the back by getting an air intake system and a performance exhaust. I have the Ravin muffler one in and two out and it sounds very deep and mean. Both mods can run about 500 dollars.

Go with a ported Throttle Body or Mopar PCM.
Forget exhaust for now.

I've done F&B 50mm TB,M1,Headers,Muffler,Open Cat,1.7RR,FIPK2, and more. That's my suggestion
from experience.

Go to speedtweaks.net they have a right up on the R/T mods. Just like the other guy said you want to start off with the basics, intake, exhaust, T-stat, and relocate your IAT.

Also consider getting a new throttle body, they work great.

Get a good exhaust. Don't go to big or you will loose your torque. I would get a good set of headers first. You can't get more air into the engine unless you can get more air out.

Very first I would (and did, as my only mod so far) get the MP PCM. Iw will be a base for any other mods you do, and will allow then to give you maximum effect. I got mine used on e-bay for only $150. It raises the shift points and rev limiter and gives you maximim timing advance. I noticed immediately I could lay way more rubber from a roll, and it now gets a good bark on the 1-2 shift. I'd add a 180 degree T stat with it $10, remove the clutch fan and add an electric for under $100 more, and then the K&N gen II cold air, and relocate the IAT ($5). If you can find a used PCM for $150 (I still see one there or on www.dakotart.com message boards occasionally) then you will have spent about $500 and have a good start. Make sure all the basics are still good (plugs wires, cap and rotor) or replace with better parts (Jacobs, MSD, Taylor, Crane, etc). Only then would I go to the exhaust and on the R/T I'd start with the headers and the cat, then go from the cat back (the stock R/T muffler and tailpipe are pretty good). The M1 is a great mod too but if you can't do it yourself it is expensive on the labor side. Then just add the 1.7 rockers if you don't know what cam, then when you get a cam you can sell the rockers for a pretty decient resale or buy a supercharger cam that can work with them.

Oh yeh, you need a TB in there somewhere, I'd say before or after the headers. Also the PCM removes the speed limiter!

The F&B is the best throttle body out there, and a great addition to your setup. I have the following mods on my '00 RT
Crower 1.7 Roller Rocker arms, Mopar Performance 4-barrel M1 intake, K&N Gen II, MSD6A, Mopar Performance Headers, Mopar Performance PCM (computer),complete 3" exhaust(header, through cat, flowmaster 40 series muffler to 2-2.5" exits through a proglass rollpan).

I dyno'd my truck 2 days ago-- 256 hp & 317 ft. lbs., that's a 52 hp increase (rear wheel) over stock and 47 ft. lbs. increase (rear wheel) over stock. Approx. 312 hp at the flywheel. I am installing a Crower cam and ported heads next. Hope to be in the 300 rwhp with that setup.

Checkout my webpage

(I currently sell F&B TBs, Crower rockers and cams, and now Mopar Performance headers)
