Subject: Mileage on brass cap??
IP: Logged

Message:
When should the brass distributor cap/rotor be changed?

I had about 12,500 on my stock cap with aluminum contacts when I changed it. I couldn't believe the amount of corrosion on the contact points.

I now have about 10,000 miles on the brass cap. I intend to inspect it and replace if necessary (have a new Borg/Warner backup from Speedtweaks).

I was curious about the recommended mileage change interval.

Thanks

Bill

Hey Bill-

You discovered the same thing I did when removing the almost new aluminum piece of junk that dodge put on there. The say it's good for 50,000 miles and the wires are good for 100,000 miles. NO WAY. But I think we should be able to get away with 20-25,000 miles on the copper cap and rotor before they start to show any significant corrosion.

I think I may inspect my brass cap just for the heck of it!!

I saw on a different thread that you were awaiting a new TB. Have you got it yet? I'm anxious to see what you think if it.

It should be an easy install. The only "semi non easy" thing I had to do on my Holley install was to modify the linkage bracket. I also had to get slightly shorter mounting bolts as the ones they included were a bit too long and would not tighten up. You will need a Torx (size 25, I believe) to remove/install the electronics from the TBs.

For a while there, I was swapping out my TB so much, that I got to where I could change it out in about 20 minutes.

Let me know if you need/want help or tools.

Bill

Still waiting on the throttle body, I ordered it back in Feb. and getting a little ticked off at speedtweaks.

Got the tools needed just can't waite to put it on.

Let us know how that cap looks, I sure hope it doesn't need changing every 15000 miles like the stock one.

Have you considered any new mods as of late, and hows the 4:11 treating you?

Jim
