Subject: Is Something Wrong?
IP: Logged

Message:
Today I was following this 5.0 and he turned the corner at the light and I did too and I punched it to catch up w/ him and when I first took off it shifted into 2nd, then after I floored it downshifted back to 1st and wrapped around to the rev limiter at about 5700-5800 and started shaking and the rpms were bouncing back and forth rapidly and wouldn't shift. I let off the gas and it shifted and went back to normal. I was freakin out, didn't know what just happened. It doesn't do it if I midly floor it only all the way to the floor w/o overdrive on. I recently had the Kenne Bell Optimizer II put on but didn't notice it do that before.
I had just gotten it back from the dealer for an oil change, I don't think the standard prodedure is to hook up the pcm and check it. It says on the warning label not to let the dealer do that. I don't know what else it could be. I had 89 octane in it when I first put the pcm on when I was supposed to be using 91 or better.

Any ideas?

~Mike~

I know but any idea why it wouldn't shift into second and kept bouncing off the limiter till I let off the gas?

I have no real idea why they do that occasionally. My buddy's truck did that once from about 65 mph before. He kept his foot in it and it kept jerking like that until he let off also. Hopefully somebody else will have some better answers.

Is that what that is! Mine did that right after I got my TB and Borla on, and I took it on the highway the next day. It went into "convulsions" until I let off the gas. This was around 90-95mph. However a few days and a hundred miles or so later, it was fine at 100 mph and has not repeated that.

I have a blown 01' RT and I have a similar problem. Going from part throttle to WOT from a slow speed (ie 30-40mph) it will shift down into first tkae off like a bat-outa-hell and shift to second, the moment it gets into 2nd it immediatly drops back into first and hits the rev limiter. What is happening is the damn TV cable connected the passenger side of the TB. I mucked with this thing to increase presure to the tranny before doing the tranny kit and converter. Know that I have changed its original seeting it hasnt been right so I have to back out of the throttle about a 1/4 inch after it shifts to 2nd at a full launch. Have your TV cable checked for adjustment. This may help.
marty at KRC also is in agreement with my problem, it may be yours.
Good luck

I had that problem with my truck. I put the cam, heads, intake, and msd on it. It did it worse. I put a shift kit in and Viper stall converter and it went away. I haven't had any trouble either since I put the supercharger on it. But when it did that, I pumped the gas pedal and it would shift. The firmer shifts seemed to help it out. Never had it happen since. Throw a Transgo shift kit in $100.

Hey, I told ya don't mess with TV cable. Problem was that the pressure inside the transmission got to high and was not able to shift.

This will mess up the transmission, also make it leak. If it has not already damaged something. Only temp fix is to move it pull it forward more for it to shift. This can cause sloppy shifting, quick 1-2-3 shifts with light throttle pressure. It also floats between gears, taking longer than normal to engage 2nd while in 1st. I'm now saving for a shift kit! This problem seems was to normal on the 46RE. It needs to be a recall!

So when you get your shift kit on are you gonna readjust the TV cable for better shifts? Or just leave it at the firm shifts?

I just got me the HydroSystem™ Valve Body Recalibrations kit. Only $150 Vs $500 for the full blown kit. I don't have the skill for the $500 kit. Nor do I think I need it.

Yes I was going to buy the Package Shift Kit, but that's $500+ dollars. With the Valve Body shift kit, it's only $150 buck and will help it shift. I just can't stand the soft sloppy shift when not doing WOT.
My tranny shifts way to soon, like 2300rpm from 1st to 2nd then 3rd within a few second. Only shift right while doing WOT. But if I adjust the TV for good normal driving the WOT 1-2nd doesn't work.

This kit is a shift kit, but without the added items to beef up the tranny.

Fixes premature band & clutch failure, inadequate line pressure, delayed engagement in reverse & forward, sloppy shifts. Hitting rev limiter on shifts.
2 hours to install. Skill 2 just remove valve body

I don't know much about TransGo, but check out this site

http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Track/9668/dTransGo.html

They mention it doesn't shift from 1st to 2nd without letting up on the throttle.

This is something I'm wanting to fix not add :)

Now Lvl 10 say's it fixes the problem with hitting the rev limiter.

Yeah it was pretty embarrasing tryin to catch that stang and all of a sudden it smacks the limiter and starts sputtering. Bet he had a good laugh...wouldn't have been laughin if it woulda shifted though, lucky him.

Well I don't think I'm gonna need that kit...after many adjustments last night I still was thinkin it could've been adjusted better, so I go out and lunch and bring it out just a tad and tested it and it was the perfect adjustment. Not too low and not too high.

WOT-4500-4700
mid throttle-3500
mildly-2500
gently-1800
Luckily I found the right spot. i think the higher rev points come from the Kenne Bell.

Ok I'm not touchin the TV cable from here on out. Like Anthony said anyone who sees this mod avoid it, it will f*ck up your tranny.

I hope to be shifting around 5200 with the kit.
Right now I adjusted my TV to shift normal while using partial throttle. But at WOT it bounchs off the Rev from 1st to 2nd. Price to pay if I don't want to burn out the clutchs until I get the Kit. From 2nd to 3rd it will shift at 5100-5200rpms! With the M1 now :) 4700rpm is just too low. I've heard that a shift kit can improve 1/4 times with a avg of 2/10th maybe even 3/10th.

I don't want it shifting too high all the time cuz I'm tryin to get the most outta the tranny w/o tearin it up. If I got that kit I'd adjust it for more since it helps the tranny stay cooler and helps keep the pressure inside the tranny down. I'm sure you need it more since U have the M-1 plus the 1.7's, w/ that setup it just craves more rpm's. I dunno revin it that high all the time makes me think like I'm gonna break somethin lol, maybe I just have new car syndrome...gotta baby it sometimes.

Most transmission damage occurs from lots of torque at low rpms, burn outs then suddenly getting traction. I wouldn't think 5200 is any worse than 4700. Either way I'm not going over that 5250rpm limiter, I might see problems at 5500rpm with tranny and motor.
