Is this possible? I have my 99' r/t's 360 just about torn down. The heads are about to come off and i was wondering. Anything i can do to clean them up. Polish the bowls to keep from detonation? port the intake/exhaust runners? anything i can do with a dremel or die grinder? I pulled the heads because of a blown head gasket. This is for a supercharged application. I just wanna do anything i can do while they are off, but the cash funds are getting low since this will be the second set of gaskets due to pinging.

i have been told to just polish the bowls and not to mess with the ports. Good luck, though... i wish to try that procedure whenever i decide to yank my heads off.

Why not find a local shop that works on heads? They can also check for any cracks that could cause you problem again. Since you have that engine torn down, why not just spend just a tad more and get them ported polished and valve job and maybe some better springs. It would go a long ways since your blown. Last thing you want is too mess up you heads with a dremel.

I agree that Fel-Pro is one the best head gaskets out there. Lots of people are
successfully running the 1008's but that is NOT the proper head gasket for the
Magnum motors. According to Fel-Pro, the proper gasket for both the 5.2L and
the 5.9L Magnum motors is 9898PT. The PT designation is a Perma-Torque design
that does not require a re-torque after engine has been heated up and cooled
down. Furthermore, the 1008 is a LA motor gasket that just happens to work
w/the Magnums. The 1008 has been made for a long time. Probably even before
the Magnum design came out. If you lay both of them on top of the head surface
of the block, it is easy to see how different they are. The 1008's don't line
up w/the holes properly, don't have the pushrod guides, and are much smaller in
width. I guess that since they carry the "Perf" designation they seem to get
the nod by most rebuilders. Some say that the 1008 is a much better gasket
because it costs over twice as much as the 9898PT's. Could that be due to their
popularity?
