 Subject: Viper engine in my truck

Ok I got a 97' sport cab 5 speed v-8./ I wanted to put a viper engine in the truck cause well its sweet and Iv always wanted to do that to every car i have owned. lol But anyways ow hard would it be? Cause I can buy the engine easy. Also what about a 528 Hemi 610 Horsepower V8 Crate Motor instead. Because I mean that is pushing wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more horse then the Viper
V10 6 speed. Would either of thoses be that har dot have done. What one would you suggest. Thanks alot

By the way Im not saying Im gunna do it so dont attack me I just wanna know if its possible cause if it is then im doing it. I knwo the viper is possible but I have never seen it done to a truck afterwards I have onyl seen dakotas built with a viper engine in mind.

Hot Rod Magazine put the 528 Hemi in a quad cab, so yes it is possible.

the hemi would be a lot easier (not that either of them is easy) because with the V10 you would have to either move your firewall back or relocate your radiator. with the hemi the biggest challenge (other than traction) would be fabbing up your own motor mounts.

there is a site out there with a Dak that has a viper engine put in it.. I think the engine itself cost about $16000 ...
Do a search ... your bound to find it..

I think if they can put a Viper V-10 in a PT Cruiser (see this months "Truckin'"), you could fit one in your Dak...with a few tweaks here and there of course :-)

If i were you i would put the same amount of money into the engine you already have in you dak. if you do a viper engine or the 528 hemi you need to upgrade you suspension and all kinds of other stuff so that you dont throw off the balance of your truck. i wanted to do the 528 hemi in my v-6 dakota sport but then found that i can get about 600 hp out of my v-6 and have the truck weigh about 500 lbs less than it would weight with the 528 hemi and even though i would not have quite the hp of the hemi i would still have a big weight advantage and that would allow me to beat it. but what ever you want to do will work. good luck and have fun

Well i was thinking if I wanted to spend about 25k on this project. Ya know like new tires and whelles and traction bars and suspension an all that good stuff. thats inclduing the engine and s***. but how would I get the engine up that high. Hell I could live with f***ing 500hp but Id like 610 cause well I have heard a "Hemi Kota" and it is so f***ign sweet sounding and also I would like the bragging rights to that kinda power. Ya know what Im saying. But if i could push 550 id take that. What could I do?

why in the world would you spend 25K to make a truck go fast? Why not just go by a 10 second race car for 15K, spend anothr 2K getting it almost street legal and another 2K for a trailr. You will need the trailer to tow the broken 10 second car with your Dakota. Trust me it will brake. You will still have 6K left for repairs and tires and expenses. You would need 600 hp to make a 4000 truck go 11s, or 400 hp to make a 3000 car go 10s. Its your money but it sounds like a big waste if you aks me. Trucks are too heavy to make fast.

I've seen that same picture used with about 5 different engine/transmission combinations. None of them ever include real performance results or a picture of the engine(s).
I bet it's a stock truck with stripes.
