Subject: Klc - does your rear end rumble?

Hey, ever since I changed out my 355s with the 410s, I have been getting a very low, "bassy" rumble at about 65 mph and up.

I took it to Houston Drive Train and had "Eddy", the mechanic ride with me to see what he thought it was.

Well, I think Eddy has been listening to too much loud rock music because he could not hear the rumble. I drove with him for about 15 miles on IH 10 and varied my speeds from 60 to 75 mph. Every time I accelerated to 65 mph and above, I could clearly hear the rumble, Eddy could not. After doing it about 5 times I gave up.

It is not a loud roaring sound, but it definately is there. You have to keep the radio off and drive on "non textured" pavement to hear it.

Do you (or anyone else) have any similar noises with the 410 gears?

Bill

That "rumble" is more than likely the axle bearings!!! You need to get that looked at immediately before you need new axles in addition to new bearings. Chances are, the dude that installed the ring & pinion damaged the bearings at the ends of the axle tubes while pulling out the axles. That rumble will only get worse until there's no fix but replace everything!

eeek!

Hey Dakaty, my gears are not making anykind of rumbling noise. I have had quit a few people, including my dad who is a good mechanic, ride with me and they never noticed anykind of unusual noise either. A friend of mine at work had H.D.T. put some gears in for him, and he has had no problems either. I think Alex is on the right track; sounds like the bearings. I would have someone at H.D.T. take a look, talk to upper management if you have to. Good luck, and let me know how it turns out.
