Message:
I have a '94 Dakota with a 3.9. The engine is a little tired, 150,000 miles. I have read most of the comments here and have the ability to rebuit and improve on the old V6. The question is has any one tried to put a 360 in the old style dakota. I am very interested in what people have done to do this and their suggestions in doing it. I am not interested in replacing the truck just getting more fun out of it.

I am trying to put a '87(pre-magnum) 360 in a '93 dakota chasis. I am jut finding out that there might not be any existing frame mounts that will let me do that. Do you know of any?

For pre-magnum small blocks, the right mount (passenger side) isolator part number is the same for 318 or 360. The other side uses a different isolator part number for the 360 as the ears on the block are cast in a slightly different position. Should be the same for Magnum engines.
As I understand it, the spools, the part welded on the K member, are the same and you can put a magnum engine in an older car, or a non-magnum in a newer car/truck.

Mopar still does that?!!

i remeber having that problem in the old days (premag LA's).

I would of though Mopar would have cast em the same by now to save money, guess that was expecting to much.

You'll need a discontinued oil pan from a '90-91 Dak because of the rear oil seal is different.
Good luck finding one. My cousin found this out just before doing the swap.
Schumacher Creative Services want $385 for their mounts.
I believe the exhaust will fit if you use the newer manifolds that came with the truck.

Just got done dropping a 5.9L into my '96CC that had a 3.9L. It was a "walk in the park" once I got everything lined out for the swap. I assume that yours also has the PCM in it and is fuel injected as mine was. I would suggest going to a newer engine for making the swap easier. Get a '98 or newer engine that way you can get the correct oil pan, oil sump and dipstick ('98 R/T)to make if fit with the crossmember. Let me know if you want the part numbers and I will send them to you. Also get the correct PCM for the engine and tranny combo, make a big difference on how it runs afterwards.

One of my friends that i know has an 89 dak and he put a 360 crate motor in it. He has a regular cab and he had room for it but he had to tilt the front end of the engine up. So the front sits higher than the rear. His truck is one fast dak, right now he is running mid 10's with it and it only had ported and polished heads, headers, intake, performance intake manifold ect... The only thing he hasn't done yet is to put a new cam in it and put a posi in the rear. When he gets done with that we are taking it to the track. He should be in the low 10's to high 9's.
