I want to remove the cat on my 2000 4.7 and replace with a testpipe for the track. on some of my past cars having a check engine light didn't effect wot performance, but it caused you to get some crappy fuel economy.
So does a check engine light effect performance or just economy

That will affect performance. Just get a cat box or O2 sim from speedtweaks. That will ensure performance and no check engine light.
