OK GALS/GUYS,

I was looking for a cool looking exhaust tip and stumbled upon these. So I took a drive out to JC Whitney this morning and bought a Turbolator (the angle cut rolled edge). Made of stainless steel, has a lifetime guarantee and is supposed to "improve fuel economy up to 8.3% for more power and better performance". Anyway I had a muffler shop weld it on today and it looks awesome- Ill post any results in mileage when I get a more accurate reading (about a week). If anyone else has one of these, Id be interested in hearing anything (good or bad) about it!

HERES THE LINK TO THE MANUFACTURERS SITE:

I was thinking of getting the same thing. Did the tip deaden any sound or change it that you notice ? also have you noticed any MPG changes or power gains? I heard they help low end torque.

Chris,

Its been 3 days now ('bout 100 miles per day) but to kinda answer your questions at this point- no it didnt change the noise, still sounds the same. As far as the mpg- no change yet, but theres a sheet of paper right inside the box that the tip comes in that reads you may not see results until after about 1000 miles- something about the computer adjusting or something (I have no clue about this!) GOOD NEWS THOUGH....as far as torque- I know people are gunna question this but- I REALLY DO NOTICE A LITTLE EXTRA LOW END TORQUE.

Couple things to note:

*I have a 4.7 liter
*I had the muffler shop reroute the exhaust out the back (under my rollpan) at the same time they welded the tip on.

Like I said in my original posting I'll post the actual mileage when I get a better reading- as of today Im getting 14.8mpg but thats what I was getting with JUST my K&N filter- so I still havent seen any improvements with this tip.

Hey Rich,

I'm thinking of getting the Turbolator tip for my 4.7 '99 Dakota and can't seem to find any yeahs or nahs. Since your original post in 2002 I'm thinking you probably have an opinion by now. Let us have it. Spend the $70 or just get something that looks cool?

I bought one to go along with my throttle body spacer and electric turbocharger. I figure it all added about 100hp and I should be getting at least 25mpg.
