In Sport Truck magazine (I think thats wat is was) said that a single in single out exhaust would make slightly more power that a single in dual out exhaust because the duals out would fight against each other for which pipe to go through. But a true Dual Exhaust is better than a single. I would go with the duals out over single out just for the sound, a couple HP do not make that much of a difference to me.

See, i thought that a single was better no matter what. I though true duals and single in dual outs both had less hp than a single because it is easier to tune a single to the perfect back pressure or whatever.

As eager as I am to hurry up and get my exhaust done, I'm going to save my money and do headers, 2 high flow cats, 2 muffs... a True dual... Heard one at the track not too long ago... Sounded good enough to where I dont mind spending the money.

Jonathan, Don't forget to put in a X-pipe to even out exhaust pressure.

I took my muffler off and replaced it with a straight pipe and lost 3 tenths in the 1/4.
Put it back on and got my 3 tenths back. I never would have believed it except I seen it with my own eyes.
By the way, the track conditions were the same on all the runs.

Has anyone done any 1/4 mile test before and after dual exh conversion? WOT performance is one thing, but how about everyday driveability? HP vs. RPM dyno chart would be best to show true gain/loss.
Dual exhaust is heavier so its HP gain must be enough to compensate for the extra weight (you know F=ma).
All the hyper sport bikes, even from ealry 80s, like GSXR, R1/R6, ZX-R, etc. come with a single pipe after the header. Maybe Single exhaust has more benefit, at least on the bikes...
I have 4.7L A/T and am debating over this issue as well.

I have installed mopar headers 3 inch cat and 3 inch single exhaust from mopar. The 3 inch cat and the section between the collector and 3 inch cat back from mopar had to be fabricated. sounds great and gave me about 2 tenths in the eight mile.

adition to above, the headers from mopar fit great and the finish work was excelent. My truck is a 5.2 ltr 98 club cab which was recently converted to a 5 speed.
