Ok, this sucks. I can't find any shops in my area willing to help me cut off that third cat. Is there some way I could do this my self? Or do I just look too suspicious to the shop guys?

Have the shop cut 1 1/2 inch from the cat this way you have access to the cat. The stock system has a S bend extension measuring a foot and a half from the cat back, then a pipe to the muffler. Just have them replace that section with another pipe, and add a muffler while your there if you want.

You can just drop the Y-pipe after the shop cuts away that S bend, then go ahead and gutt it.

Most respectable muffler shopts won't do it...the reason mine did it is cuz they put a flowmaster on then later on installed headers so they knew me well, developed a trust type deal so they knew I wouldn't narc em out. Just an everyday joe they're too scared U'll tattle on em.

Chances are you will not find a shop unless you knw them well, and even then a $10000 fine is a tough choice.

Get a hacksaw, or sawsall, remove it then take your truck to them(it will be loud a hell) or buy a piece, cut to length, and add 2 sleeves(one for each end).

If you have emmisions testing, the best way is to remove the cat, beat out the core, and then replace it for the visual inspection.

Remember it is illegal for them to remove it, they are not just being as%&les.

You see the thing is I live in the great state of florida and there are NO emissions testing. I dont want to gut it cuz if i ever move or they re-instate the emmisions I don't want to buy a new cat. So basically what you are saying is that I should find the shop I want to put my muffler on and then on the day of my appointment just hacksaw the thing off? Would it be harmful in any way to do that? By the way thanks for the info.

Would it be harmful in anyway? I guess I'll just say "Oops, I guess I ran over a hacksaw on my way to the shop." If i do cut it off then will they still put just a muffler on or will they say they have to put a new cat on it?

Good luck with a shop in florida. I know a place in havanna I have heard will do it. I live in redneck florida and I can't find someone to do it.

If I could weld I would just build pipes to sell. So anyone who can weld want to start a on the side jod? there has to be demand.

But it isn't dangerous because I wont get caught, no emmisions. All I have to do is make sure they won't say they have to put a cat on after I've taken mine off. I'm sorry but after they put the 2 pre-cats on they added the 68mm TB and it was still 5 horses less than a one cat with the 65mm. I would remove the pre's but that is where the O2 sensors are. And i don't feel like shelling out hundreds for a high flow cat.

you could just buy the Y-pipe for a 2000 Dakota, that would remove the front two cats, then just keep the third one on.

How about removing you exhaust system, load it up into a buddies truck and have the shop cut and wield only. Could be cheaper plus you could say it's for a race car that you have. Only for track racing. *grin*

Just saw the thing off yourself! Get a hacksaw or a pipe wrench and go to it. I've done this on a few cars in the past... you can do your own muffler(s) at the same time. Just get some clamps and put it all back together when you're done. You can get straight pipe at any parts store like a NAPA or something.

Honestly though, I put a high flow cat on my old Grand Cherokee and I think it was about the same as cutting it off... and it was still legal. You can get one pretty cheap if you look around. Of course, it didn't hurt that I also had a 2 chamber Flowmaster, and a K&N conical filter with the 5.2 V8... this setup was LOUD!
