When people come to this site to talk smack about the Dak. (Hey, that rhymes. I'm a poet and don't know it!) As I posted in an earlier post, at least we Dak owners (most of us, that is) have enough sense to have no desire to go to other sites (such as Toyota or Ford) and talk smack.

You know what I have noticed is that a lot of domestic truck owners like to talk smack about toyotas. I own a 99 5.2L CC 4x4 myself and I love it. I can't resist to put mods on it constantly and clean it every weekend. But I also think toyotas are amazing vehicles, my parents have consistently owned toyos for years and now lexus. They're well built and ride well. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade my truck for anything right now, I just think that they should get more respect than they do? Do some of you feel the same way or did I piss everyone off??

You'll notice I did not say "..no desire to go to other sites of vehicles we hate, such as Ford and Toyota." Personally, I think the Tundra is a pretty smooth truck. I love my Dak, but that doesn't mean I suddenly hate all other trucks. I would have to agree with you.

It would seem that there's yet another Dak hater on our site, though. Oh well.

Now I will say that if money was no object, I probably would have gone with the Tundra with as many options as I could stuff into it. I love the look of the Dakota, and I've always wanted one, but I must admit I like the Tundra. However, I wanted to keep costs below $20K, and for that amount, the closest competitor to what I got (an '02 CC SLT auto Dak, bedliner, 3.9L V6, cruise, cd/tape, heavy duty service, towing package, etc.), was a Toyota Tacoma with the same options, plus a few power thingies, and an engine with 15 more horsepower but about 30 less ft-lbs of torque. All that for about $2000 MORE than I paid for my Dak. Thus the reason why I liked the Dak better.

Yeah, can't complain about Toyotas too much, my last too were pre-Tacoma minis - stone cold reliable and fantastic resale value - got half my money back trading in at 7 and 8 years old and over 100,000 miles each. Not as solid a feel on the road though and you have to go to the heavier Tundra to get the V-8. Just don't have as much character though, paid my dues now its time to burn up more dinosaur juice ! Now Fords, thats a different story.

I think Toyotas are great vehicles. I had a Tercel that wouldn't die, they rust out, but you cannot kill them. My ex drives an Echo, which is one goofy looking Mr. Bean type vehicle, but well built and practical. Not to mention amazing mileage (but no way would I drive one :) I don't mind the trucks, but the looks of them don't make my stomach do that little flip-flop the way my dak does when freshly waxed.

I have to agree also the Toyotas are pretty decent vehicals... I ran an older model 4~runner against a buddys full~sizes silverado and 88 Mazda B~2000. (MUD trail) That damn 4~runner would go through more spots than the Chevy could even dream! They're so light with a narrower wheel base. They look like crap after a few years but they run forever!! Same with the Mazda, it was only 2/4 but it keep suprisingly well! We beat the crap out of it day in day out and it still runs to this day! **~I also admit I wouldn't trade my Dakota for anything, but the Mazdas and Toyotas run for ever!!~** (Great winter vehicals)

We used to have one of those old small Mazda B2300s, from like the mid 80's or something. It was small as hell and looked like it was on its last legs...but its last legs were strong as hell. *L* I'm like you guys....I've never had the same amount of fun driving any vehicle that I have had in my Dak, but from a reliability and capability standpoint, I think we can all agree the Toys beat the hell out of the Chebbies for the most part.

I'm with you fourgivn1, I probably would have purched the tundra if had come out an year earlier and it werent for the money issue. What caught my eye and still catches my eye is the white tundra with the TRD package, fully loaded. I think the TRD package makes it look so much tougher than the regular 4x4's. The problem was the 33k sticker compared to the 22 for my dakota. Yeah...the tundra is fast and a hell of a lot smoother, but i like the raw torque and rumbling of my 5.2 :)
