I am not sure what you are talking about, I was replying to Jason and think we should feel good about our mid sized trucks.

On the other hand, technology is more advanced now then 10 to 15 years ago. The SHO did it's trick with compression and some wicked flow and intake that seems to be a DUAL runner type for torque and high end power. It's over 10 yr old technology. Honda's still used 50 vacuum hoses and them funky 3 valve heads back then that made any mechanic go insane when that emmission stuff failed!

I drove my mother in laws new Accord. If you nail it from a 15MPH roll and it gets into the aggressive area of the V-Tec timing it pulls hard as sh*t. But when I try it from a stop it has not enough to even peel out LOL!

The torque is probably far less than the 270HP it is rated at so you can't say it's got more power than a 235HP 5.2 or 4.7
If it was in a truck, that engine would not be able to pull a boat for 10 miles yet alone 300 or something.

first off SHOs re not (read NOT!!!) fast cars. if you think it is a fast car than you've never been in a fast car. i have driven an SHO and they are not impressive in the least bit. so stop all your ridiculous stories about who beat what and where, because its stupid. a sho runs 16s factory, a v8 dak runs fifteens. numbers dont lie, people do, enough said

Well I remember at the time they were faster than some factory 5.0 Mustangs in the 1/4!

I don't know of any sub 16 sec 5.0's at that time.

ryan,
the 89 sho's are fast. 0-60 in 6.6 and 1/4 in 15.2. this is in a front drive platform car which is not ideal for quarter mile times. on the top end, it kept up with my 14.0 second 94 z28 automatic but not with my 2000 camero ss six speed. so here you got a guy that had a red camero ss running 13.5 at maryland international raceway (aka budds creek, md) telling you that if you got the right sho (read NOT an automatic) then you got yourself a car worth holding onto. especially the 1989-1991. if you have never owned one of those three years, or ever driven a friends and shifted at 7000 rpm redline like you're suppose to in a sho, then you just aren't feelin' what we're talking about.
this is a car 17 years ago that just now cars are catching up with. so buy your sonata if that's what you wanna cruise in, and take your accord to the track if you got it beat by a half sec. but the sho was a beast, and you better have a regular cab, v8, 5spd if you're trying to beat one of the good sho's with your dakota.
just my two cents

Wow. If that wasn't the smack layed down!!!

You made me remember something funny when you say know how to drive, when to shift, etc.

About 10 yrs ago I had to sell my 5.0 Mustang in a hurry to move back to Payson. I was real poor and marriage about to end. (it did anyway amd would have not sold car if I knew).

Anyway. One of the people looking at it took it for a drive with me in it.
The guy floored it from a near dead stop grunting it and shifted at like 4,000 RPM's max as if he was driving a stock Chebby or something!

The car had a Holley Dbl Pumper and a wicked cam profile and high compression. It was a wonder that him flooring it (a stick shift) from 1K RPM's didn't stall it and he never got CLOSE to the wicked power it had between 4,000 and 7,000 RPM's!

I'm thnking, "alright. This guy isn't going to think it has any power".
We get back and this guy had a friend come over and he points at my car and says "this thing sh*ts and gets!!!!"

I was thinking to myself, 'Let me get these fackers in my car and I'll drive and show them what fast is!'

Just funny. Some people drive a car with a manual and a wicked power band and shift as they get to the real power :p

Jason,
I'm amazed, here you're finally admitting that a stock Dakota can beat even the highly vaunted "89" SHOs.
Glad to see you come around.
Of course I've known that for years, like I've said all along, my brother owned both an "89" and a "93", I know how well they run.

i don't recall saying it couldn't. i am faily sure MY truck couldn't, except off the line cause my truck is pretty wicked off the line compared to most trucks around here in md. never raced a titan but i feel better with these gears.
but my truck is extended cab ( much heavier) and doesn't have a manual tranny (much faster). i wish i could even fit in a regular cab, i'm way too much of an ogar (shrek) for that. n-e-ways, part of my love of sho's is that i really don't have money for these new cars you're talking about. i could pretty much save up for a week and buy an sho. as opposed to a five year commitment with an admitedly MUCH nicer car.
different strokes for different folks. p.s. check out my post at the gas mileage amsoil thread. he he he.

Well I remember in them years when the SHO first came out they said it was as fast as the 5.0 Mustangs at the time.

ALSO, the Dakota came out with the first 5.2 (318) V8's and the same comparison was, "as fast as a Mustang 5.0" in some cases.

So... should be up to what each vehicle is equiped with and how someone drives it.

Last night at the track (before they started recording some episodes of "Pinks!" there was a Ford Focus running 13's and almost into the 12's. Damn. I didn't even hear a turbo on that one either!
