In the last issue of Truckin they did a write up on the JBA headers with a run on the dyno. The truck tested was a new chevy with a V-8 and it did improve the performance. It increased HP by 10 and torque by 20 (approx.), plus the truck reached its peak HP at a lower RPM.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with Gibson, but I thought it was interesting to have some real world results on the benefits of headers.

I just installed the JBA's on my 2000 5.9 and I found them to be terrible quality headers. Not only was one of the bolts defective, there was slag in one of the bolt holes that had to be drilled out, one of the headers was warped and neither would bolt to the collectors like JBA said they would. It took a muffler shop an hour to get them connected. I would NEVER recommend JBA

I got my JBA headers put on at a muffler shop on my 2001 R/T and so far they're great...only problems the guys at the shop said they had was on the drivers side it was a b*tch to get everything in there cuz of the brake booster and all but other than that no problems. Bolts are still good and it runs a hell of a lot better than it did before. In my opinion they're awesome, unless I'm proven wrong.

Oh one thing about the quality I did notice...the machining of the headers that JBA did was really poor quality...looks like one of the workers slipped cuz there was a big skid mark where it looked like the grinder hit it. Hopefully looks don't compromise performance.

Cool! Thanks a bunch for the replys. That helps, so I just might go with Gibson, since they only cost $330 for plated or $400 Stainless Steel.

I had Gibson SS headers put on my 2001 5.9 QC and they are great.

The SS ones aren't shiny like the chrome plated ones. However, the SS have a lifetime guarantee.

Call ERIC at truckperformance and see if he wil make you a better deal.

Cool,

I didn't want some cheap headers or very expensive ones either. I can't wait to get them :)

My engine bay will look Sweet after I get the Polished Mopar Valve Covers and Chrome headers.

hey, you might want to jet-hot coat the headers (since you have 2k left over ;-) after a while the chrome will turn colors and might rust.
the ciramic coating will keep them a lot cooler, and looking new for a LONG time.

the polished covers look nice!

I'm not too worried about them rusting by the time they might rust, I'll have some custom headers that will supply my twin Turbo setup MUHAHAH.

Actually ceramic coating can rust from the underneath where the metal and ceramic care in contact. The coating will look excellent, and I highly recommend it, it is a good idea to spray the headers with WD-40 every couple months and wipe down the ceramic coating. I run the coating on my snowmobile pipes which take more abuse than the truck! visit LO-KO performance website, they do awesome work.

Another 2 cents on JBA's. Installed 'em on my 2000 r/t , fit perfectly and thought the design/quality is very good. Benn on the truck two years and no leaks, never retightened the bolts like yer spose to once in a while.

Anthony G, i have been running the Gibson Headers on my truck for about 2 years now, and have not had any trouble with them at all. Something you might want to consider as they do not come with bigger y-pipes is take your truck to an exhaust shop that can do mandrel bending and get some bigger y-pipes bent for it, they are a real bottleneck. I had that done and it worked out great. Take Care.

Did you have your y-pipes replaced at the same time as your header install or later? I was curious about the difference in performance associated with just the y-pipe change.

I am running the Gibson SS headers with the stock y-pipe to a single cat. From the cat back I have a single 3" Gibson.

No, i didnt get them changed at the same time, the guy at my exhaust shop mentioned it to me. I have mandrel bent 3" y-pipes and they made a pretty good difference, especially with a blower. Take care.
