Subject: ENGINE RUNNING HOT. HELP!!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
Today I removed my clutch fan and put in a robert shaw thermostat. the 180 for the 4.7liter.
I filled up the collant resovoir with fluid opened the purge and started the truck. It wants to go to 210 when the electric fan comes on and slowly rises above that. The resovoir is not getting any lower then when I filled it.
do you purge the system with the truck running or with it off? Is my stat not functioning properly? can I run the 195 with only the electric fan?

please help all guess's and suggestions greatly appreciated.

A common mistake a lot of people do is install the thermostat in backwards. Make sure you installed it the right way. Since air rises to the highest point try disconnecting a heater hose with the radiator cap off and refill the cooling system. [engine off ]
