Hey yal... I have a 97 V6 auto. with a few mods to the performance. Is it better to race with overdrevie off, and then turn it on once you get going, or how should overdrive be used? Anyone got any good tips for getting off the line?

Kyle

I doubt that it would have any effect. Overdrive is a 4th gear and unless you're really reving the hell out of 3rd you're not likely to kick up to 4th at a moderately high throttle (much less wide open)

I keep the overdrive off when racing. That way when you stomp on it it wont have the downshift delay.

The tranny will also run a higher line pressure without the o/d on. Makes the shifts a little faster. A shift kit is the best thing you could do for it.

Using overdrive it shifts too soft and too early...also here'z a tip, if you get good enough w/ some practice, start out in the first gear position (like if your going up a hill or towing) and you can manually shift the auto from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and then put on overdrive to shift into 4th. Careful though if you screw up thats an easy way to blow an engine. Once you get good you can shift like its a manual.

would racing with overdrive off affect you 1/4 mile times of 0-60 times?
