Yes, ALL 4.7L's come with the 9 1/4" rear, same as the RT.

The 4.7 comes with a 9.25? According to the Dodge website, it comes with the 8.25? Who's telling the truth?

Oh its a 9 1/4", I've been up close and personal with mine. I grenaded it at the drag strip dumping the clutch at 3500 rpms with slicks.
Too bad Chrysler did'nt use beefy parts, it would be a nice strong rear ;) he heeee
I've got some cool digital pictures of a few broken spider gears. I had to replace the entire assembly, gears, and housing. That cost $1100 from the dealer. Was able to use my axles.

what about us with a 4x4?
I have a 2002 cc with a 4.7L, 3.92's LSD
The reason I ask is because, going through the "build your Dakota" on their site it shows an 8.25 rear axle

Yep, 4x4 also. The 8 1/4" is standard with the 4cyl, and the V-6. If you option for the V-8 you get the 9 1/4" upgrade at no additional cost.
If you look in your glove box, the sticker should say "Corporate 9.2" Also, the rear cover will have 12 bolts.
