The key to porting the throttle body is to not remove any material from around the throttle blade when it is closed. Remove the lip that is in front of the throttle blade so that it is the size of the throttle blade. It is quite a narrowing compared to the size of the throttle blade. I used a dremel with sanding drums at 60 grit so as not to remove to much material to quickly. I didn't remove the throttle blade or anyting. Just removed the throttle body from the engine.

One last question on the stock throttle body. What is the purpose of the lip that we need to take off and what does it do to performance?

It's known as a "Torque Step". It allegedly builds better bottom end TQ but has a nasty effect upon quick acceleration from idle to WOT...it's stumbles a bit. Removing the step not only cleans up the bores but also smooths the airflow (adds to the CFM and performance capability of the TB).

Cw I think we mighta started somthin' with this tb port and polish deal. Jeez it all started with Lesley taking an emery cloth to her tb. I think it helped to grind down the screws flush with the shaft and taper the rim at the entrance. I don't think it's hurt the bottom end but it screams from 3000-5000. It's hard to say how much it helped my performance I was pretty much learning to drive when I did it, also I placed a k&N drop in fernco elbow ground the baffles out of the stock air box and cut the front outta it, and placed lakewoods. I real happy with the performance, my brother and his mustang aren't!

Yeah. I did it on my '97 but I think it made more of a diff on my '01 .I have a note pad in my documents with the info for the TB port I just cut and paste it into here. I will have to add the grinding the throttle shafts and screws. I have done it soooo many times.

We pretty much got our trucks at the same time Q you started modding your truck and then stopped did you run out a money there bud. You have to get rid of that third cat. If you can get away with it.

Naw man actually I never had much money to start with I think every thing I did cost less than $100.00. I'm getting divorced so I'm holding back til I find out what the divvy is gonna be. If I keep the truck and get rid of the Ole Lady I will definatly be having some fun on this truck. If I gotta get rid of it I might hold out for a 2003. We'll see I got a lot of things up in the air for now. But I really want to know how those cams work out. What do you think of KRC's head port and polish? Would it be worth the cashish?

Yeah I am real tempted to see how far I can push this truck N/A. Been thinking about higher compression pistons but I like the turbo idea as well. Corrected 13s maybe but my town is at 3000+ feet and the track is at 3500+ feet. Not good for the ET. I know a guy and his lighning only runs 14.4. on a good day at that track.

Is there an oxygen sensor near the third cat? Im
bolting on my second sytem and wondering what
kinds of gains this could hold. By the way, with
all your mods cw how has the trucks driveability
been? Cold weather starts, idle, check engine
light been on a few times i suppose. Your really
pushing it. Must be nice to work at a dealer. Any
word on those pesky DRLs?

No drivability problems at all. Had all the mods listed and it was almost -40°F a little while ago. Never seen a check engine light on in this truck. I am sure I have gained and not lost torque with this engine. There is no o2 sensors to worry about when it comes to the third cat only the 2 in the Y-pipe.

Did you not get my e-mail response? Why would you want to get rid of them they have saved me a few times frome pulling out in front of someone when it is really hard to see out. Like wqhen the sun is in your eyes. I would leave them be as so other dumbasses will see you coming.

BTW I am just getting started. I am looking seroiusly into porting the heads. It sure feels like it could use more fuel because at this stage in my mods when I turn the IAT adjuster on and adjust it to a cooler setting it feels alot better.

No, I am not going to lower my truck. It makes them just about useless, as a truck, then. I pull a 5000lb trailer with 450lbs of tounge weight. Then I load my KTM and riding gear on top of that. I pull over the scales at about 9500lbs GVW with trailer.

But yes I do find the handling a little sloppy but that is alright because I can pull off the road and down some trails to unload my bike. I like it that way. I drive gravel roads at least once a month as well. Not a good thing in a lower truck, not if you like the paint the way it is.

Unfortuantely the nearest dyno is 2hours away and they only dyno during the week. Unfortuantely I am at work then. I may do it for interest on my holidays. Think I will go the way of the G-tech to see how much I am improving my truck.
