I think you need about 270 HP at the rear wheels to turn a 14.2 The 4.7 doesnt even have that at the crank ! No way.

BTW , what was the MPH on yer 14.2 ?

Who are you asking?

If you're asking Matt Barrett, he ran 14.23 @ 94.49 just like it says in his signature. As far as not believing him, well, that's a fight I wouldn't want to pick. I've personally seen him go 14.7's on street radials. The 14.23 was on slicks. And he's done LOTS of mods since then. I dare say he's in the high 13's.... you should make it up to the Chryslers at Carlisle to watch him run.

Hahahahahahaha You had me confused for a while!

big_torque - I read your post and couldn't figure out who you were talking to. So I went back to the very beginning..... you know, about 14 months ago? Sure enough - you were replying about a claim about a stock 4.7 Dakota with an automatic that said he went 14.20s.

I think it's entirely possible for the 4.7 to make 270rwhp..... but I surely don't believe the guy was making that with a stock one!

yeah , sorry about that Duner
I read the 1st 20 replys to this post and just skipped to the end.
Was talking about the guy that ran 14.2 with a stock 4.7 oh he had a muffler

I seen stock SVT cobras (96-98)barely get 14.2 the other day.

Man , going to the track sure is a learning experience. Peoples mouths and car magazines are way off.

Yeah, sorry, i wasn't jumping your poop, there, Big Torque. I didnt go back to research who you were talking to. Matt's run lots of 14.2's but he's got lots of mods and broke lots of stuff. That first guy must've been smoking some of that G-Tech grade of weed.

Hah, I'll say, especially when you get people who don't know ANYTHING, but who hear of a 10 second car in the fast and the furious, then hear of someone's real life car doing 12 second 1/4 mile and say "that isn't that fast.." HAH

That's kind of what I've been saying alllll along. Stop arguing over the 4.7 vs the 5.9 and Mustanks vs Dakotas and just go to the track.

The old rule is this: NO car is EVER as fast as you think it should be.

Everyone's first time to the track will usually prove that. But, once you've been, usually you get hooked and you cant help but go faster from there.

Mods mods and more mods. What all can you do to go faster????

Yep , the track is addicting. And yer right , you never run as fast as you think you will. My buddy ran his 98 vette convertible for the 1st time. He put some stuff on it and thought he`d get a 12. nope ,,,, 13.5 s

" jumping poop " LOL never heard that one , alex.

Well.. the magz reviews are correct... but what they do is take a car/truck and run it like 20 times down the track with PRO drivers.. THEN they pick there best time and best speed and put it together and say thats what it runs...

so yea

hehe

The problem with magazine reviews is they are not always professional drivers, they are journalists first and drivers second. They don't always run at the track, and they don't always use beam timing devices. They also sometimes correct their times to a standard, and sometimes they don't. It's jsut hard to compare one magazine's results to another because you never know the varibles. Some magazines go out of their way to tell the whole story. High Performance Mopar did that with the 98 CC R/T they tested when it was new. They honest to god ran a 15.1 on their very first try, at a real track, and didn't correct any times (or they would have been even better). About the best comparisions are when they test cars side by side and even then sometimes they are girly with the launches and shifting.

I always like the look on peoples face after they ask to use my G-Tech so I go for a ride with them. I have never seen a person happy with the times it spits out. Reactions range from "Oh.... I thought it would do better." to "This thing is broke. There is no way it is that slow." I just lauph evey time.
