DakYoda, the real measurement thats important is the surface of the drum where the rims meets it to the other, as some brake drum and pads were substantially wider than others.

Dragging this back up. Anybody done one of these swaps recently? I'm looking at a swap on my '95.

Billy, its kinda funny to look back at one of my older posts....

I'd strongly reccommend contacting Terry DeLong at ProFinish/ProGlass.

http://www.profinish-proglass.com/home.html

He's put one of those under a Gen 2, and he can probably spill most of the details. Other than that, you might ask Ray Block on the DML..... I think he's running one, and he's just a fountain of info.

As for my posts at the top of this thread, I think you were right. The 9.25" is stout enough to live. The 8 3/4" is the only option if you are running a 408 in your truck. That 8.25" won't last through the summer if you race it at all.......

i put an A-body 8 3/4 in my 88 dak. cut the lower shock mounts off of the original, and welded em on the 8 3/4. everything else just bolted together. and the width is just fine. all A-body 8 3/4 came with an odball bolt pattern. to use it either have the axle flanges redrilled, or talk to moser for a set of axles.

If I talk to Moser about getting a set of 6 on 4.5 axles, what do I do about brake drums for the rear?

Ummmmm....... shyte....

I forget what my buddy did about brake drums. I think that maybe the 6-lug drums will fit the 8 3/4" brake assembly?

I do know for a fact that you can make it work, and it doesn't take too much modification, so I assume that the 8 3/4" housing just has to have the brake assembly to match the Dakota drums.

I do know that my buddy's 95 had the 6-lug wheels at all corners, but he was running an 8 3/4" rear.

Maybe call Moser and see what they suggest?

For swapping the 8 3/4 into the 95 use the backing plates and brakes form the 95. If you have 10x2.5" a b-body rear drum will fit the 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern. If you have 9x2.5" brakes it will also bolt on the 8 3/4 but you will have to use rear drums for a 90 dakota 5 on 4.5" bolt circle.

For the front, replace the rotors with the 90 Dakota parts.

If get Moser to cut me a set of 6 on 4.5 axles, can I also use my '95 drums?

I'm going to get new axles anyway and I've already got a set of real nice 6 on 4.5 rims I want to run. I'd rather not mess with the '90 rotors on the front.

Hey guys!!! Damn I forgot all about this thread.
I'm the "Scott" that started this thread!!

Just so you all know, its way cheaper to use a E or B body because no custom axles are needed.
Only cost will be lower shock mounts (unless you cut and reuse the stock ones) and a set of $20 spring perches from MP.

You might have to have the driveshaft shortened, I did.
Also dont forget about the pinion yolk, alot of 8 3/4 had the DC small yolk and I havent seen a Dak yet with the small yolk. The coarse spline big yolk is very expensive. I wanna say 150.
There is an adaptor U joint that has 2 small ends and 2 large one, that didnt sit well with me so I had the small yolk welded on the shaft after it was shortened.

Good luck and feel free to ask me anything you need to know.

There's an article in this months Mopar Muscle about gear swaps in the 8 3/4 rear. That may help.
