They are EXCELLENT. I have one in my 1996 S-10. I burnt up one tranny due to the "comfort" level they build in to these trannies. They allow the gears to slip when shifting, and after a tiem of moderate-heavy throttle, it takes it's toll.

The Transgo modifies the rpm and firmness of the shift(you usually have three choices: Street, Performance, and Full Race). If you are looking to change and extend the life of your tranny, Street will work for you. Performance level will bang home 1st to 2nd hard, so be warned. Full Race is just that, fot the track. Guaranteed. you will notice better mileage(since more "slip" energy will translate to forward motion rather than heat), cool "precision" feel of your ride(along with a good 1st-2nd chirp of the tires in Performance mode), and less frustration as the tranny will now get better with age rather than worse.

Do it, and quick!!

Hi, I have alos looked at this system. My 1990 Dak V6 has Edlebrock headers, K&N intake, Jacobs Omni Mag Ignition, Jacobs coil, 8.5mm Jacobs wires, Autolite3923 gapped to .045. No cat, Flowmaster dual exhaust.
Anyways, I have noticed my 2nd and 3rd gear change being sluggish. I tend to loose alot of power at the bottom end. Do they even make a TransGo shift kit for my specific application? Is it worth it?
Thanks guys.

Transgo firms up all the shifts. but 1st-2nd being the most noticeable. If you know your tranny code. I can look it up on some sites for you. I am 99% sure they have it for your ride.

Love mine. Look up TransGO on the net. Give them a call. They were extremely helpful to me. My son and I put the kit in my '99 before they had the '99 kits ready. I used a '98 kit and an engineer talked us through the differences.

Hey guys, I am not sure which tranny I have. My truck is a 1990 Dak. 2wd, V6. How do I find it?

How does it install on the truck? Is it merely a computer chip type of thing or is it a full physical system? Thanks for the help.

I can't stand the way my tranny seems like it's always 'hunting' for gears. Can anyone explain why it seem like thre are actually 4 'shifts'. Feels like a normal 1-2 shift, a normal 2-3 sgift, then if I'm not on the gas a 'slip' in to another gear, then a normal 3-4 shift. What's up? Thanks for answering my stoooopid question!!

Are you sure you're not Simpleman? Just kidding.
Check with the dealer about the tranny #, although I could only find one listing for Chrysler, so yours should be one of those included.
You will be modifying the transmission with springs, drilling the valve body, etc. to accomplish a much firmer shift. Beware of the B&M shift improver kit(cheap), it will not take care of everything. You will spend probably $80-120 on a good kit (such as the comprehensive B&M, Transgo, etc.). Not a terribly simple job. No computers here.

AAMCO did mine in 3 hours, and they do this kind of stuff a lot. Not easy I'm sure. But man, no problems since they put the kit in.

Wow! Never thought I would get this much input.
I am looking at what to do with some of my tax return and want to get the most bang for the buck. I saw these on KRC and had to ask for some opinions. Going to get the Black magic 150 elec fan and the crower roller rockers so why not top it off with a tranny mod.
Im running a 96 4x4 3.9 with the basic mods i.e. intake, exhaust, plugs, tstat etc. Im the original owner and to this day have not had one thing go bad except the fuel pump. They dont build them better than this.

transgo-engine light
IP: Logged

Message:
Last thursday I had a transgo shift kit installed, also had them do a service on my 2001 5.9 quad cab. Then went on a road trip friday and noticed a check engine light, so I pulled over and realized that when I took off from a dead stop I was starting out in 2nd gear, also if I put the transmission in 1st it acts like it's in park. I reset the pcm and everything was working great. Then on my way home it happened again same light, same symptoms. So I reset the pcm again and all problems cleared up. I was on the road and was unable to recall how to check for codes, so when I got home I drove all over town, up and down the interstate. But was unable to get it to happen again. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what might be going on. The kit works great and I'am very happy with it, I just don't want to have to reset everything every 150 miles.
Any help would be appreciated.

Love the kit!! Made a world of difference. I found it really firmed up the 3rd to OD shift too.
Bj- that 4 shifts is the lock up converter first then the OD
plr7- did you put the resistor in by the pcm? If the PCM senses too much pressure it will set off a fault code.

It was just a thought. I think if it does get a fault code it goes into "limp home" mode which doesn't let it shift pass 2nd.

I'am gonna go ahead and put the resistor in. I believe you're right, I've been thinking about it all day and its really the only thing I can think of that would be causing this problem.
thanks for the idea

I bought the transgo kit about a month ago, and had it installed last week. On the cover of the instructions it reads "fits 1966-96 chrysler torqueflight and loadflight rear drive and 4 wheel drive transmissions three speeds and 1988- 2000 4 speed. including inline 6 cyl. v6, v8, v10 & diesel; models 904, 998, 999, tc6, tf6, tf8, 727, 32rh, 500 and 518 42-44-45-46-47rh &rh" I paid $100 from truckperformance.com, and $160 to have it installed(also had it serviced) The kit works great. I did have an issue with a check engine light on a road trip I was on last week, installed the resistor that is supplied with the kit(higher pressure in the transmission triggers a check engine light and puts the transmission into limp mode)and I believe that fixed the problem, I'll know for sure after this weekend.

So, they don't make a kit for the 4.7? I searched truckperformance.com and for the 46rh tranny the kit was like 50 bucks. I have the 45, so i'm guess that the 46 won't work. I am always one to try something like this, but figured I would ask before I act. lol
