HELP !!! WHEN I RUN MY HEATER, I GET THIS STRANGE SMELL INSIDE THE CAB. IT DOESN'T REALLY SMELL LIKE FUMES, OR OIL, OR ANTIFREEZE, OR ANYTHING HOT-BURNING. IT KINDA REMINDS ME OF A KEROSENE HEATER SMELL, DOESN'T REALLY "STINK", JUST SMELLS STRANGE & GETS IN MY CLOTHES. ANYBODY EVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE ?? THE TRUCK HAS A 3" BODY LIFT & GETS LOTS OF AIR CIRCULATING UNDER THE HOOD.

Could be a leaking heater core.

If you run the defroster do your windows steam up and you have to shut it off to get them to clear up? If so that's probably what it is.

If that doesn't sound like it, there was someone the had his AC Coil rot out due to the the drain plugging up. Have you lost your AC charge?

Hi,I have a new 2002 and it has a smell when you turn on the heater. It kind of smells like burning paint.I ask the dealer and they said it was the paint on the heater, just to run it on high for awhile to wear it off.Don't know if it's the truth but seems to be working.Laters Brian

DAKOTA DAN, I'M PRETTY SURE IT'S NOT THE HEATER CORE. NONE OF THE STANDARD H.C. SYMPTOMS. I'M THINKING MAYBE A SLIGHT EXHAUST LEAK AT ONE OF THE MANIFOLDS. SO MUCH EXTRA AIR GETS SUCKED-UP UNDER THE RAISED BODY & POLLUTES MY RE-CIRCULATION INTERIOR AIR. SMELL STILL SEAMS "FUELLY", BUT VERY STRANGE. COULD THE O2 SENSOR BE BAD CAUSING AN OVER-RICH BURN ??

Well Chuck, my Dakota don't stink so I'm thinking about hanging on to it for a while. Come to think of it, that may be a good way for you to get rid of that stink. Take your own advise and trade the Dak in on a Nissan. Problem solved. Stink gone. Well, gotta' go now. It's those voices again. Where is Dr. Q when you need him? They keep telling me it was some of that stuff I took back in the 60s. I still think it's my deceased relatives..... See ya'.
