Here are some pics of my best friend's 99 R/T which we are in the process of turboing (is that a word..hehe).

As you can see, it is still in the project state.

Just wondering if any of you have experience with a 5.9 Turbo and what would you recomend for fuel delivery?

We are thinking of taking the turbo-diesel ram fuel DELIVERY system so we can have a fuel pressure regulator near the throttle body. Then all we need is a Vortech FMU to up the pressure under boost to add more fuel.

At least that's what we did on my Integra (FMU) and it worked great.

Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Thanks in advance.

A turbo Diesel is a whole different breed of fuel system. No in tank pump and only designed to work at 12 psi.

2001 RC 4.7 5sp 9.25" 3.92 LSD
Ported throttle body, IAT adjuster, 3" flowmaster cat back, TPS @ .76V, 4" cold air, roadmaster active suspention

I've heard that the fuel regulator on the tank is somewhat limited in size. I have no idea how much it can pump. Maybe that system could be completely bi-passed with a small racing tank and pump. Almost like a second tank on the truck for racing. Either set it up to switch between tanks or somehow have the normal tank supply the small tank when it's gets low?

I've had two tanks on a truck before. Why couldn't this not be done for a Dakota?

Say you have a High Pressure Turbo setup on your Truck. Once this switch is on, your second tank becomes your primary which of course has the high octane fuel :) an maybe flipping that switch adds more boost with retarding timing. Options are endless.

The easiest (cheapest) fuel system would include adding injectors at or near the air hat and control them with boost reference switche(s). Then the rest of the fuel system needs to be able to supply the flow and volume at the required pressure.

The easiest (expensive) would be DFI running the required injectors using the required volume and pressure. A plus with the DFI system if used as a stand alone system is that it can help with a timing curve which makes as alot of difference making power in a turbo application.

Here's what we are thinking.

Remove the stock fuel system from the pump right to the fuel rails.

Install a High Flow in-tank pump (Holley 255LPH)with 1 new supply line. Install a Fuel Pressure Regulator (like the B&M one for Hondas) and set the pressure to stock.

Run a return line from the FPR back to the tank.

Splice into the return line with a Vortech FMU, and under boost more pressure will stay at the injectors to allow for more fuel.

Install 30lb injectors.

I think this would work quite well.

ANY OPINIONS?

Looks good to me.

I just don't like using a FMU
set up in a turbo application because it reaches max boost around 3000 rpm as opposed to redline in a supercharger app. This means alot of work for the FMU in the turbo set up. Just keep the fuel pressure and boost guage placed for constant easy monitoring.

What is your plan for the timing?
There is alot of power to be gained with a custom timing curve. MSD type retard box looses hp but keeps it safe for the street, bad gas, heat, etc.

J&S Electronics makes a nice timing retard box but I have not used one yet or know anyone who has. Here is the URL to J&S.
