They are the quicker of the magnum engines but not to the extent that some people think. I had a '93 and a '97. The 93 reved much better but didn't pull off of the line any harder. Without much work you can make the new ones as good as a 93.

I have a 92, an I have made many passes at other cars and trucks, I havent found a 5.9 thats insane enough to race where I've seen them (mainly in town inh the 25mph zones). I do know for a fact though my 92 5.2 will take my good friend's 97 with the 5.2. He has dropped a lot of weight, no tailgate, spare, and took out the seats... trying to lighten it up a lot. But since I am only 17, I'm sure you guys arent going to take my word for it. I just know when or when not to race.... quik thought, if I supercharged her at 10#, would it hold with a Lightning... win even? just a thought.

I can for fact state that the 92-93 GenII are way quicker than the R/Ts my best Bud has a 93 Dakota Sport CC with the 5.2 and he also has a 2001 Dakota R/T CC and the best the 93 has ran is 14.7 @ 93mph and his R/T runs a measly 15.65 @89mph. HMMM My 92 V-6er get the R/T everytime we go play except when we go canyon carving that truck truck flat rocks when it comes to going left and right but if i put a rear sway bar id probally be able to keep up with him no Problem.
