Message:
I've just installed a cat- back exhaust using a Flowmaster 50 series (single in dual out) and a K&N air filter.
I'm noticing a 250 to 300 drop in RPM at idle and at highway speeds. Is this what other people have experienced?
The truck only has 1440 miles on it. So, is this drop in RPMs due to engine break-in or better breathability?

I never noticed a drop in RMP's when I put on my Flowmaster 40 and my K&N but I just put on my new 52mm TB and I noticed a drop in RPM's of about 500. My thought is that its not having to work as hard to go as fast as it used to...so it should be a good thing, hopefully.

Something isn't right here. At highway speed you should be in lockup (auto trans) and there isn't any converter slippage. So the only way to drop rpms is to drop speed, if the trans is working correctly. Idle is a different story and I really wouldn't worry unless it is rough or too high.

Hey Wayne D. Nice truck you got there. I have a Dodge Motorsports Flame Red RC, 3.92, and 5 speed. The head mechanic at the dealer told me the last time I was in for an oil change, that they got in the total production numbers of the Dodge Motorsports Edition Dakotas and that there were ony 56 built throughout the country! Now I dont know if he was refering to 5-speeds and autos or just 5 speeds but heck I reckon these are supposed to be some of the rarest optioned Daks built. Just figured I would drop that tid bit of info on to you.So how are you liking yours? Mine getts looks and double takes where ever I go. The only probs so far are a foglight that contiuously wants to crack makes 3 DC has installed, and a popping noise in the front suspension when turning a hard corner at slow speeds. This thing really hauls although I didnt get the Sure-Grip rear which I wish I now had I took it to Bristol Dragway and ran a 16.1 with it the first time I ever raced a manual and at that time it had around 7,000 miles or so. Now I really know how to drive it and where to shift before I shifted it at like 5500 and 6000 which is way to high I have found around 4800 to 5000 optimum. Well sorry for the ranting, Im still waiting on a little cash that way I can get a flowmaster exhaust here soon Im gonna get the new catback system and possibly add the fender flares that the new Daks have. Good Luck with the Truck!

What's the motorsports' edition add to the package? I've never heard of this.
13K miles since Sept.11 (I felt kinda weird picking up a new truck on that day.)

Well on top of my base 4.7L Sport Plus it adds the light group, a Chrome grill replaces the usual painted one thats on the Sports, Dodge Motorsports Stickering on the doors, Gloss Black 16 inch rims ,and Yellow lettered Goodyear Eagles. Plus DC sends you a track pack filled with all kinds of racing goodies to take to the track, and a "DODGE" sticker for the windshield. I think its like an extra 600$ or some where in that area ontop of the truck you get, it comes on the cc and rc only, 2WD only, Black,Silver, and Flame Red only, but from what I hear any tranny or engine combo thats regularly avalible.

Most people with the 4.7 and have put a less restrictive exhause have noticed a decrease in power, but not RPM's. The 4.7 computer is pretty touchy when modded and generally adjusts better once reset and given a week to learn. I thought tires and rims on the DMS packege looked great, never been a big fan of stickers. Hope this info was of some help!

Thanks guys! (JIJ) I've got a 5 speed with a posi rearend. (DMSDAK)The fender flares from Dodge are perhaps the best cosmetic bolt-on I've added. At $250.00 they are really not any more expensive than aftermarket and they bolt up soooo easy. Heck, they even come painted to match the factory paint. The holes are already in the fenderwells. (Dr. Q.) What your saying makes sense. I'll keep an I on things as the computer relearns it's enviroment.

Here's a look if you're intrested. http://DEMYDOWICHcomp1112.homestead.com/

Wayne,

w/5 speed the same applies - still locked up - no slip. A given speed will have a given rpm (unless you change tire size). I really don't know how accurate the tachs are. At idle none of this applies and the idle is controlled by the pcm. So the idle speed (if you minimum throttle setting is correct) is adjusted by the idle speed motor.
