Subject: What should I buy? 4.7 or 5.2?

I've been looking at 98-01 Daks for the last 2 months now..and i've narrowed it down to 2 of them. One is a 99 CC, White, 5.2, Auto, 4wd. The other is a 00 CC, Intense Blue, 4.7, Auto, 4wd. I've test driven both of them, although the '99 was peppy, the '00 is noticably quicker. But, on the other hand...the 5.2 has more available mods for the time being. There is only a $500 difference between the two. I've heard alot of good things about the 4.7 lately as far as gas mileage, power, reliability, etc. What would some of you guys suggest? I'm a first time Dak buyer. I'm thinking it basically boils down to what I plan on doing to it for future modifications. If I only plan on doing a throttle body upgrade, cold-air kit, and exhaust...would the 4.7 be the way to go?

BTW: Listening to the stock exhaust between the two, the 4.7 actually sounds more muscular. Kinda like a modular Mustang.

For only $500 dif take the 4.7. It's more economic and mod's are available. It's also a year newer and probably a better overall value unless it's a high milage vehicle.

How are the options between the two? what gears do they have 3.92's (which I have in my 2002 4x4 4.7L) will be awesome for towing and getting off the line 3.55's better gas mileage, see if the owners have any type of maintenance history, check for leaks and If they both check out ok go from there, intense blue is a sweet color I wanted it but 2001 was the last year for them. Also check the insurance cost between the two, I'm assuming the 99' will be cheaper.

Good luck

I have the '00, 4.7, CC, 3.55 LSD, auto. I am very happy with it, mileage wise I average bout 17-18 in mixed driving, freeway driving 70+ usually 19-20. The only mods I have done is Flowmaster SUV performance muffler with duals and made my air intake.
Pulling wise, it pulls my drag boat great.
Oh and I have 25k miles on it and no problems except the d%#@% brakes.
Good Luck

I have 01 QC 4.7 auto 2wd, 16k miles. Happy as hell with the truck, cannot really speak for the 5.2, never been in one. Seems like more mods are comming out more often now for the 4.7 .

Far as I can tell the 4.7 is a great motor.

I would say go with the 4.7

They both have the 3.92's. All the rest of the options are pretty much identical. The 2000 has 27K miles, the 99 has 37K miles. The 2000 is $500 more. That 4.7 is looking better all the time though....

Thanks guys

I had a 98 CC with 5.2, 3.92 and Auto, Now have a 00 QC with 4.7, 3.92 and the multispeed auto, (actually a 5 speed auto that has two different 2nd gears) The 4.7 is smoother, revs way higher and freeer, gets better gas mileage and is quicker despite the added weight of the QC body. The biggest differance is the tranny though, the old setup was really irritating when you were merging onto the freeway, if you got on it it would shift down into second but was out of revs so soon it was a waste of time. The new truck shifts into the higher second gear and will pull great until you are really up to speed.
