To do any of the stuff you listed, it would be cheaper and easier to do dual batteries. If you run dual alt. you need a reverse current cutout relay and a lot of other stuff.

It would only take an extra battery tray and hold down kit, wiring to run dual batteries. But even that is a little much just run an omptima deepcycle spiral batt. it can handle all of that

Gary..I believe that the alternator you have on now is a 117 amp. If you got the heavy duty service group you get a 600CCA battery, and an alternator that is 137 amps. That should be enough to power just a bout anything electrical you want to hook up.

Gary, I to am in need of a dual alternator kit, but let me dispel a myth or to. Adding a second battery would work but you will find yourself buying a new alternator anyway. When dealing with large current draws to a 12v electricle system you have to make power to produce power. Currently the 137 amp dodge alternator CAN NOT keep up with a audio system that pulls considerable amounts of voltage. Your alternator will be working harder to try and recharge the demand placed on your current electricle system. Even if you put a second battery on the vehicle this will cause the alternator to try and split the difference between them. exampl... your alternator replaces the lost power to a battery that has been under load, two batteries under load is twice as much replenishment for your alt. to replace. Two alternators WILL produce sufficent amp output for most audio and liteing systems. Check out SVR batteries and Ohio Generator for dakota spec's. Don't for get you need a 1 farad cap per 600 watts of output power, isolate the engine power from the audio power with a battery isolator. If you have questions feel free to e-mail me. maybe you should consider a custom altenator, go into a local place that rebuilds things such as starters and altenatrs and see if they can build you a custom one to spec, probably cost a few dollars but you can get some pretty big altenators built

how about buying a large industrial portable 100kw generator and pulling it around with your dak! the dual alternator idea is a good one as long as you keep both systems isolated from each other.

Can I still buy an altenator that has dual output terminals like the Lestek or Wrangler brands. They used two sets of windings inside one housing instead of mounting two altenators. Some of these altenators had a higher output on the second terminal for welding or custom electronics.
