For anyone who did a "home" modified throttle body: You happy with the results? Did it improve throttle response (from 2500rpm up) and passing power? Any change in mileage? The cold air intake and Flowmaster exhaust I installed are great, but I think I can still get more out of it, especially when just gradually pressing on the go-pedal. I've done most all of the common bolt-on mods, and I'm happy with the results. Next is fuel injectors and throttle body. I can't justify the bucks for an aftermarket TB, since I just want a strong daily driver. But if I can improve performance with some time, wrench work, and a Dremel tool, I'm all for it!

I have done it to my 2001 4.7 and my 97 5.2 can't say I was disapointed at all in either of them. With the 5.2 I took a hack saw and cut the ears off of the top of the throttle body. Then took a dremal tool and ported the lip above the throttle blades flush to the size of the throttle blads and tapered the edge of it to allow air in more easily.
The 4.7 I just ported the lip off of the throttle body and there is a big one on the 4.7.
Main result I noticed was that the throttle reponse went up pretty good and may have gained a little in milage as well. Well worth the time and money in my opinion.

CW - how did it affect your lowend torque on the 4.7?

I would say that it helped out torque. Definataly didn't loose any.

I modified the TB from my 94' 318 and I am happy with it. I milled off the tops of the venturies and radiused them. I also skimmed down the locating blocks and polished it. It is much quieter now and doesn't get as much "intake" at 1800. If I didn't know better I would almost say it pulls better in the midrange now. This seems to be a nice easy free mod to thoughs that have the tools.
