Subject: Alky injected R/T???
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey fellas, I was just reading through an old issue of Hot Rod where they did a rather biased test on an R/T. The next article was about a 13-14 second supercharged R/T. he mentioned something about alcohol injection to cool the fuel mixture. would this work? I imagine so, due to the nature of alcohol's cooling properties. Give me some opinions, guys...

I'm using an alcohol injection system on my truck. It helps to cool the intake charge under boost. We used to use a similar system on engines that had too much compression for pump gas. It worked wonders to keep them from pinging.

There would probably be some benefit on "normal" engines.... but it would be tough to tell.

12.9 with 5.2. No runs on 340 yet.(except for next week on the engine dyno.)

Duner got any pictures on the alky system. Reason is I might dump my ported heads and go with the magnum aluminum which would put me to over 11:1 compression. If alky works good enough that means less n20

I wish I had a digital camera.... I'd just go and take some.

I'm running the Spearco injection system that works off a boost pressure switch. I have the alcohol nozzle spray into the intake tube right after the turbo.

The way we used to do it (NA) is with a micro switch on the throttle linkage just like you use with Nos. You could actually wire it to come on with the same switch. The only other thing, is you would have to run the big injector nozzle on a NA engine. The way it works with boost - the boost actually pressurizes the alcohol reservoir and that makes it spray harder. The more the boost the harder it sprays.

Oh, and bye the way..... nice stripes! hehehe

What kind of front valance are you running on that?

I think i'll just keep things the way they are and just live off the bottle. Nitrous is enough money and all i liked to spend on alcohol is for my self. Xenon airdam. I don't use micro switches because if i lose traction i have to let off both throttle and bottle. With my finger switch i can let of the bottle and still leave it wide open. Couldn't you have used like a 75 shot to cool things down

I probably could have used some Nos to cool things down.... but I didn't need the complexity. Besides, alcohol is really cheap! hehehe
