I did a search on sims, (the things the camaro guys are using to trick their 2nd o2 sensor, by thinking there is a cat) anyways, someone posted you have something like this, is it true here's the post. Or is there a way to trash the cat without tripping the check light.

Thanks

Thanks CW, so who has tried a kat box on a gen 3 hopefully my truck will be delivered by next week, and would like to take out the cat (the main cat) they don't inspect them in MI,
I guess it would also be nice to know where to mount the box

Thanks

The mounting location is on the frame (picture on website).

The KatBox works on the Gen-III trucks without any problems. '01+ models do require cutting and splicing as Dodge changed the O2 connectors in mid-2000.

I'm also workign with Caspers Electronics on the O2 SIMM for the Dodge's (different type of O2 onthe Dodge systems)...we'll have a second "ProtoType" in a few more days. (The initial one worked fine but didn't like the voltage range.)

Hey thanks Bernd, you'll have to keep us posted on when and how it turns out. I think it was you bernd, (not 100% sure though) that posted about removing the cat doesn't make any extra power until 3,000 rpms, is this the same with a 4.7L auto 4x4 w/ 3.92's, and is there a decent gain?

Clevite77, be carefull. i have heard that putting just a cat-back exhaust on the 4.7 will hurt performance. by taking out the cat, it might be even worse. i dont have a 4.7, so i cant speek from experience, i am just going by what i have read from others and tring to be helpfull. goodluck

I'd definitely be careful on the 4.7L as it needs the bottom end TQ to get moving (as compared to the pushrod engines).

I'm also looking at something that Porsche has used for quite some time now: variable/tuned exhaust based on engine vacuum. Backpressure is regulated by a valve in the exhaust system...keeps TQ out of the hole with free-flow exhaust systems and opens/closes upon load demand. (Very easy to build but need to find out who makes that valve.)

Now that's a exhaust valve I would be interested in. Let us know if you get more information!

Lexus does this as well on some models. Their system is electronic. I think Honda has a model with this feature as well.

VTEC variable valve timing. It's crazy looked at one with the valve cover off. I didn't take time to understand it, but alot of gears on the cam shaft thats for sure. Anyways, on my 2000 CC 4X4 4.7 I didn't notice any low end loss when I installed my glasspak and dual tips. The thing runs like a rabid ape until I hit 3rd gear at about 4k RPM then it loses some torque. Going about 80-90 MPH. I'm sure a supercharger would fix all that. Someone loan me 4 grand!

Ken, VTEC is a totally different animal than what Porsche uses on their exhaust system. VTEC is on the valvetrain (as you explained)...this is not. (I'm not sure about other manufacturers...just found it on a new 911 exhaust system.)

Hey Bernd take a look at the Nissan Altima, it has a variable exhaust, timing, and intake. a buddy here at work is thinking of getting one and he showed me a cd (brochure) that the dealer gave him I thought this might be helpful

variable exahust timing is different than what Bernd is talking about. This is actually dealing with the cam and valvetrain, which is very complicated.

Bernd's idea is based on the 911 which used a valve in the exhaust piping, that basically would create backpressure and help low end torque, then open up and provide the high end hp, best of both worlds.

But two different things, not too many companies have used the exhaust valve, which pretty much everybody has variable valve timing...

Sorry This is what I meant Variable Exhaust (in the exhaust) variable timing (in the OHC's and timing belt) and variable intake (in the intake of corse) does that clear it up a little, sorry about that I can see where it could have been misinterpreted that was my fault

Not this has anything to do with our Daks but, Ski Doo snowmobiles used a system called R.A.V.E. for over 10 years which I believe is an exhaust valve setup also. They stopped using it a couple years ago though.
