I have duals going straight out the back of my '01 4.7 CC. Recently I noticed the tips were at the begining stages of rusting. Sux. But!, they are under warranty so my chop-shop is doing all work for free.
I been thinking of getting some new tips for her. Any suggestions???? ( I currently have the 3 1/2 inch round slant cut tips,,,,pretty common). I was thinking of going with some Z28 tips (supposed to be rust resistant),, and I think it would look cuda-ish. What ya'll think?

Hey man I got the exact same size and type of tips U got and they are rusting on the inside...everyone says thats common for them to do that. Some people say if U take a few long trips the rust will eventually go away but I called the muffler shop that put em on and suggested that I could spray some high-heat black paint on the insides...dunno if that'll work. But I kinda noticed it looked crappy to have brand new chrome tips look like tips from 1984. Also heard some people suggest stainless steel tips.

I'd like to get a stainless Borla tip when I get my cat-back on. But in the meantime, I use steel wool on the stainless stock pipe to make it look clean and shiny again.

Pretty much every ones tips that aren't stainless are going to rust on the inside.
On a '98 F-150 I owned, I did spray a black high heat paint up inside the tips. And it did look good.
My problem now, is that they are starting to rust from the outside. And, ya,,,,looks like it's from 1984,,,sux.
I just thought about using Z28 tips (I know it's kinda crossing boundrys..) but they're stainless,,, and look almost the same as what alot Daks use in the cuda roll pan.

ZenDak...

Try your local Midas shop... They carry stainless steel tips now for about $40 each.

And to think, on my T-Bird, I paid about $65 each for stainless steel tips off of a Lexus... just because no one else had them available at the time (about 5 years ago and still no rust)

Sorry about say'n Z28 round here,,,I figured it might stir up some people.
If it makes a difference I traded in my 2001 Camaro Z28 for my 2001 Dakota! Has nothing to do with manufacturer,,,,just thought it would be easier to actually find these tips as opposed to finding Cuda's or knock-offs.

Ya, it was like $230 a month, and I already have one ticket that stuck on my record. I'm just glad to have USAA insurance,,,el cheapo.
Found out I can't use actual Z28 tips. They are the same tip, and both are offset on the same side. So,,,I'd have to bend some exhaust pipe on one side to make it line up,,,sux.
Guess, I'll just go for the traditional round slant cuts.....
