Has anyone installed a Transgo shift kit? If so was it worth the time and effort?

I have a Trans Go kit in my '99 Dakota 5.2. My son put it in for me in about 3 hours. When I ordered it, a man (didn't get his name) at Trans Go told me to call him when we installed it. He told us of a modification to make that wasn't in the instructions. My truck was too new for the '99 kits to be out yet. It worked great and I have had no troubles with it. The shifting is firm without being too hard. I say go for it.

Thanks Wayne, this seems to be the missing link on this forum. I have searched the archives and active in every way I can think of with no luck.

Wayne, how much was the shift kit? I assume that it is for the 44re trans.

Brad,
I believe it was the 44re. I have a bad case of C.R.S.(can't remember stuff). I believe I paid less than $50. I'm at work right now. I'll check my records and post some specifics tomorrow.

Brad,
Well don't I look silly. I pulled the papers on the Trans Go kit. The first thing I noticed is I paid $99.99 for it in May of '99. Oh well, that is only twice what I said yesterday. I do have the 44re trans. The kit number is TRG-TFOD-518 from Summit for my truck. It was the kit for a '98 model however the first to second shift passage way was different and the guy on the tech line talked us through how to drill it out properly to get a better shift. The '99 model has a very sloppy 1-2 shift but this kit is doing exactly what I want it to do.

Thanks Wayne, I didn't realize that the 518 shift kit would work on the newer trans. good to know.
