Subject: Traction Bars

Message:
Im wondering about Traction and Lift Bars for my 2000 CC 4.7 4x2 with 355 gears. I put R/T rims with 275/60/17 Yoyo Proxes S/T rubber on it, and have a few other mods on the way. Even now when I hit it I have slow launch because I burn the tires. I raced a guy in an R/T with traction bars and he flew out of the hole. Anyone know who makes them, which are best, how much they cost, etc? Also are there any problem with having them on all the truck all the time? Beside racing my dakota I still have to use it as my daily driver.
Thanks

Jonas

I've seen and heard of people using traction bars offroad (specifically built for that) but have never actually seen them. As for the conventional (Lakewood) traction bars...big NO-NO for Offroad. They sit too low and can hang up on rocks, holes, etc.

I tried the spring clamp route a while ago and they work very well.

Can someone fill me in as to the specs on Traction bars, do they really work, how much they cost, which are best, how hard they are to install, and any problems with them, espically on a daily driver truck

thanks Jonas

Traction Bars normaly mount directly under the rear axle, they have a bar that extends forward with a bumpstop like knob at the end that contacts the front spring eye. When you hit the gas, the rear has a tendency to "hop". The traction bar makes contact with the spring eye and reduces this. On road their fine but off road they hang low to get caught on rocks, etc (as Bernd stated). They also can limit articulation and hamper the suspension of working to its full potential.
