i was thinking about getting a used '98 club cab stock dakota. if i were to give the truck 33'' tires and the required lift...would a 4 cyl have trouble carrying that around? and would this affect gas mileage?

The 4cylinder would move you but lets just say you'd be about the slowest Dak on the block

my friend has a 99 3.0L v6 (more like a big 4banger) ranger with a 9" lift on 33's, and even with 4.56 gears, its real slow.
dont even consider the 4 banger.

why not get a v8?

Eric

well, i'm looking for good gas mileage (for a truck) and i'm not really going to be using it for all out hardcore off roading...so i was wondering what would be a good balance between the two...maybe a 6 cyl? and what ways could i improve mileage? thanks.

i would get at least a v6. the miledge is not that much better than a 8 (maby 2 mpg better) you can always add a intake, exhaust and a few other things to get 2-3mpg more

the 4.7 gas mileage is close to the older v6...get a std cab stick 4.7/limited slip, and go pre-runner!!!

intake, headers and exhaust on a v6 would add power and improve gas mileage, but a better investment would be the 4.7 (forget the 4 cylinder!)

i say get the 4 cyl

because if u want any decent gas milage that is what u need
the V6 is rated to get the same milage as a suburban the 4.7 V8 is much more efficient
it gets 13/19 and the v6 gets 14/18 or so
also the V6 is not fast at all its unresponsive
your not gonna win a race with either so i say either get the 4 or the 8 cause i dont see and advantage to the 6. it has a lot of trouble pulling a dak also. if u dont care about speed get the 4. the V6's 0-60 is like 13 or 14 seconds. although thats a 4x4 but the V6 sucks i hate it. its the worst part of my dak. my mom's 5.2 V8 jeep is much faster and gets about the same milage

Brian024.7 is right, They are slooowww....Try passing somebody with the 4 banger....
I owned a 93 4cyl, 5spd, RC for 70k miles & just sold it for a 93 V6 auto.
You can depend upon 300 miles per tank, +/- 15 miles w/the 4 banger. I am only getting 200 miles per tank w/V6. Even though the mpg is down I enjoy the performance...

My 3.9L V-6 isnt that bad. It is no r/t but I isnt doing 13 sec. 0-60 runs either low to mid 10s is about right. But gas milage does suck.
