Need some input,I will be doing a computer upgrade and need to decide if a custom PCM flash or the Superchips Icon Controller is the best choice.Because of my year and trans a custom flash is my only option and I tried a jet chip with bad results. I have a IAT adjuster, alot of bolt on mods and don't plan on a supercharger or nitrous.

I'm guessing that you have a 4.7L. A custom flas is pretty much your only option. Mike Leach is the one who does the reprogramming. Try to get a hold of Duner for phone number's. Price is about $400 from what I understand. I talked to mopar earlier on the phone and they said they have permanently discontinued performance computers. At least for the 4.7L. The reprogramming is supposed to be an excellent mod though. It worked wonders for Duner and others. I'd have it done but I can't be without my truck for as long as it takes them to reprogram (3-7 days from what I have gathered). Vague I know but I hope it helps.

If this is for a 2001, he doesn't touch them.

Because you have the 5.2L why don't you get the mopar performance computers from KRC. It costs $330 and they'l flash it for you for $25. You don't need any custom reprogramming. At least i'm pretty sure you don't. The mopar PCM is the same as the reprogramming i'm almost positive.

strange. Go for it then if it's all you can do. I'd probably get my PCM reprogrammed if I had the time. I'm going to hold out for the hyperspeed and match it up with an IAT. From the way it sounds, the hyperspeed might be a decent replacement for the reprogramming. At least thats the way it sounds.

OK!!!! Got my Mopar PCM today for my 97 5.2 2wd auto. I had to buy the California version because they do not offer a Federal version. I have about 50 miles on it now and NO dash lights! This PCM was plug and play. No VIN or Milage coding!(this is only for 98+ models, lucky me). So far so good. My truck did not feel to different at first, but then I got on it and I noticed a nice improvement. This works great with the shift kit I just installed. When I floor it at 30 or 40, it downshifts and does the fish dance. This was all on 275/60/16 Toyo tires and 3.55 LSD. Never thought my old '97 had it in her. Keep in mind I have a few other minor mods, like a ported TB, 160' T-Stat, K&N drop in filter, Autolite 3923's, trans-go shift kit, Terminator muffler, and 8mm Mallory wires. But this stuff is so basic and cheap. I also set my TPS voltage from 5.3 to 8.3. This was easy and took about 30 minutes.

I would say if you have a '97 5.2 2wd auto, get the MP PCM for the California model. It works and is definately worth it. If you look at the 93,94,95,and 96 listings for the MP PCM, you will notice that the CA and the FED part #'s are exactly the same. I don't have a clue as to why they didn't market the 97 PCM the same way.

Next upgrade will be an aggressive cam/1.6 rollers/springs. I can't wait!

I have to post again to say how much I love this new MP PCM. My truck is a contender now. This smile should last me long enough to get the cam and rockers!

Why is it that I wanna race now? I don't want to trash my truck, but I cannot help acting childish. Maybe I should take the PCM out until I am around 50 or so. LOL

If either of you are interested in selling a computer for a GEN II dakota 5.2 please let me know. I am droping a 5.2 in my 95 dakota to replace the 3.9 I'll buy a factory or mopar performance computer. I'd also be interested in a wiring harness if you guys know where I can get one.

Thanks,
Geoff

Sorry Geoff,

Gonna keep mine around for when I go supercharged. It will be a great candidate for a flash instead of overwriting the MP PCM. Once I get my blower, I may sell the MP PCM. I am sure someone has one for sale.
