Just thought I'd let everyone out there know about a little fun I had last night. Cruising around in my truck to test everything after the body drop and new engine('92 AWD w/ blown 408 stroker) . Well I was revving it up at an intersection to listen for exhaust leaks. Well someone i have seen before pulled up next to me in a brand new black vette convertible. Well he had a girl in the car with him and there was plenty of highway in front of us so i thought it was time to test the stroker. Well I have to say this was the coolest experience of my life and now I know why i love dakotas. I know he took off fairly slow because well i was just driving a little primered truck. I took off with a nice chirp(AWD!) and then I saw the nose of his car start bucking when he was shifting hard trying to keep up. Well he caught up to where we were about even then I buried it, barked them again at a 40mph downshift and took off...never saw him again except for 2 headlights in the rearview. I love this truck! I'll have ET's posted once i get some track time

The new ZO6 is also running on 405 ponies. Enough to put it to 60 in around 3.8 seconds. That is about .1 faster that the current Vipers!

I'd love to see some track times from you guys who mod your trucks to Vette killing levels. What kind of power are you getting from a blown 408? I would go home and cry if a truck beat my Vette. That guy is probably trading in his Vette right now for a Viper.

Just to stick up for the Vette. His girlfriend was probably yappin' at him to slow down.

Vettegonebad - 12.76 @ 107.77 mph last friday night with my 4.7 Dakota (turbo'd).

I've seen a couple of ZO6 Vettes race at the track here in Phoenix (Firebird)..... they ran mid to low 13s on that night. In their defense - the track is notoriously greasy. You only have a prayer of hooking up with some sort of slicks. On street tires it's an exercise in car control. The air temps were certainly not what anybody would call ideal either. Definately not an ideal situation for best times. I don't remember what kind of trap speeds they were generating.... but they were probably up there pretty good.

Duner I was talkin to Shawn at my local DODGE dealer. He said that you built the turbo yourself. What did it take to do? Also what other mods do you have with the turbo.

bjlindsey - My truck is actually a White CC with Ruby Red stripes going across it. I have a simple page with some pics of it here:

http://members.home.net/cartel5/Turbo/RTnotTurboPage.html

Python97 - I sure hope you are talking about "Shakerboy" Shawn Kaufman in New York. I would really be scared if any of the local DODGE dealers knew exactly what I had done..... not good for warranty claims - that's for sure! hehehe

Installing the turbo system was a TON of work. Since I built it all myself, there was a lot of trial and error fitting of parts and tubing. It would probably have been easier with more/better tools to use.... but I'd never let that stop me.

As far as mods? The truck started life as a Sport. I replaced all of the suspension parts with R/T parts (springs, shocks, sway bars). I ported the throttle body and I am running a full 3" exhaust system from the turbo to the end of the tailpipe. I fabricated the front half with the turbo system. The rest was the Mopar 3" cat-back system for an R/T with the addition of a 3" MorFlow cat. I took out the Gibson muffler that came with the Mopar system and replaced it with a 70 series Flowmaster.

Yep Im talkin about that Shawn. I was talkin to him about me getting a supercharger and cost. So he brought you up and said that you did better and it was cheaper. I just wanted to know what you did. Sounds very tedious. Do you have a parts list so I can save myself a headache.

I'm afraid an itemized parts list will have to wait. It's quite extensive when you consider all of the systems involved. I'm hoping to market turbo kits for the 4.7s in the near future...

I'll just say that you need to build the exhaust around the turbo. You need to move the air conditioning components out of the way. You need to supply the engine with enough fuel at the correct time and under both vaccuum and boost. You need to provide an oiling system for the turbo as well as an oil return system. You also need to provide a way of cooling the intake charge between the turbo and the throttle body. You also need to have everything in place to monitor what's going on with all that. Then you get to try and tune it......

My dak's AWD is based on a AWD 2000 durango drivetrain. It's a 5 spd stick.

Bernd- I hate to say this but I actually am not sure on the exact details of the engine controller. It started as an RT PCM tht a buddy of mine flashed and config'd with my truck then someone else gave it back to me. He's been out of town and I haven't been able to ask him exactl what he did.

But I do have my first unnofficial ET(Gtech not track). I'm not sure exactly how accurate Gtech's are but this one had me at 11.8 on street tires running the 14# pulley. Hopefully I'll be able to find an open track sometime before it snows.

Do you know off hand what temp setting on my IAT adjuster these engines like? I've got it down to about a 7 degree range but without a dyno I can't be sure. Just checkin

When using the IAT adjuster with the supercharger, does the PCM assume that this temp is coming before or after the supercharger? Because I know that the air itself heats up just passing through the impellers and if the optimal operating temp is around 60 degrees then i would need to set it a lot lower wouldn't I? just mental rambling...
