For all of you R/T guys who think that the only reason a 4.7 can beat a 5.9 is because of the tranny, your wrong. I have seen a 4.7 AUTOMATIC WITH 3.55'S with single traction run a 14.9. The multispeed transmission should have been put in the R/T, it would have probably helped the performance of an R/T. Oh, and MAR, that mustang probably cost about $17,000 less than your 360 Tow truck and it can kick your R/Ts ass, so I would say the only tow truck that you are talking about is your truck, in which it performs like a Tow truck. Ha, Ha ha.

There is no way a 4.7 auto with 3.55 gears can run that fast stock. I've ridden in one, and g-teched it. Best it coudl nuster was a 16.1 on the g-tech launching at 1500RPM. My R/T will run 14.9 on the g-tech, and 14.73 at the track.

Don't listen to 5.slow over here, he does not know what he is talking about. For a 4.7 auto to get those times it must have quite a bit of mods and that 5speed automatic trans is nothing but junk. I like my 5.9 and the 46re bolted behind it. It may not be the fastest thing in the world but it is surely not the slowest and i have nothing against the 4.7 guys. Some are pretty fast like Duner's and some are just slow and this goes the some for 5.9s also. Oh and one more thing i have wasted pleanty of 5.slows and i am sure 4.7 guys wasted some to, it is just an easy kill.

I am hoping for a Transgo shift kit to come out soon for the Multispeed Tranny to help with the Sloppy Shifting with anything other than WOT.

Sounds like your were in a 4.7L 4x4 truck, not a 4x2, cuz the 4x2 autos can get low 15 to high 14 runs

4.7 auto's can't get low 15's and high 14's stock!!! I'm sorry to say that it's just not possible. The 4.7 doesn't have the torque to get good 1/4 times with the auto tranny. After a few mods, then yeah they probably can, but not stock.

I saw that truck that day also. The only mods he had to the truck were lake wood slapper bars and a k&N drop in filter. It was also cold that day and he was runnin consistant 15.0's.

Are you guys positive those were the only mods to this 14 sec 4.7/auto/3.55 open truck? Sounds pretty much like a stretch to me. I know lots of 3.92 5-speed 4.7's that would like to see 14's with only a K&N drop in for the motor. The traction bars really are not a big help with a stock automatic, especially with that low torque. I don't doubt a 4.7/auto can run 14.9 but think it takes a few more mods. Here's the bottom line a 4.7/5-speed/3.92 LS is equal in the quarter to a R/T. An automatic in the same will cost you at least .3 or be really close to a CC R/T w/ a RC 4.7 auto. I priced both RC 4.7/5-speed/3.92ls and RC R/T's when I bought my R/T and the 4.7 was going to cost just under $14,000 and the R/T was going to be $18,030. So I would have saved a good $4000. I would have been short a few options to the R/T (That 4.7 was stripped except for A/C, 16" wheels, and the 3.92 LS) but it wouldn't have really mattered to me. What did it was I have a daughter, so I needed to be able to seat 3 in the front. We tried it in a test drive with a 5-speed and it just didn't work. So it was get an automatic, or get a CC. If I'd had gone with the CC 4.7 5-speed it would have jumped up to the R/T's price, and I'd be slower then my RC R/T is. I personally like the look of the RC as well. Funny thing is I found a lightly used R/T, in the better 2000 model year, in the yellow color I really wanted. But guess what? It has bucket seats! So much for the family truckster! Actually I found the center seat in a junk yard so someday I'll get some seat belts and get it in there. I've got nothing wrong with the 4.7's but I just call a spaid, a spaid, and pretty much a good driver in a stock 4.7 on a good day will equal the times of the same cabbed R/T on the same day. To post otherwise is just trolling for an argument here.

I swear that truck did. I was so pissed off that I got my brother to bring me back home(about 35 miles from the track) to get my 4.7 5 speed. I drove it to the track and the best i could do was a 15.0! (without trackion bars at the time) The next day after I seen this truck run a 14.9 I got a set of lakewood trackion bars and ran a 14.7 the next week. Another thing, a 4.7's rods and pistons weight about half as much as a 360's. (4.7 rods have a mass of 560 grams and pistons mass in at 360 grams SUPER LITE! Thats why these trucks are so fast off of the line. That truck with the auto had a 2.1 sixty foot on street tires.
