Has anybody out there used either the Denso, or NGK iridium plugs in a 4.7?

Kenne Bell highly recommends the Denso plugs, but when i went to go get some, i found out how much they cost. $14 EACH is way to much for me, and i thought my Bosch +4 where bad. But im still gonna get some, when i get enough money. I think Bill (SemiHemi) uses the NGK's in his, and he really likes them, with 9# of boost to boot.

Glen C - At least you found a place to buy them. I can't even do that! lol

My 4.7 was pinging with the stock plugs, and I really think that I lost some balls with the 3923's.

Those iridiums sure sound awesome.

Before i got the KB, i LOVED my Bosch 4417s (i think thats what i had). Worked great. People say they arnt good for the older mags. but in my 4.7 they kicked ass. Im runnin the Autolite 3923s right now, and i cant wait till i get enough money for some NGK's or Denso's.

I finally got some for my 4.7...

$60 later I have the NGK's up and running and they seem to have made a serious difference over the single platinum Bosch plugs that have about 45k on them.

The electrode in the center on a new bosch plat. is flush with the ceramic, and mine after 45k were recessed about .003" or more after just that long (burned off)!!!!

The Iridium appears to have MUCH more exposed electrode material that seems like it would be worth regapping and reusing after 40k or so.

Horsepower wise???? The torque came back and the pinging went away at low rpm and the motor just runs better altogether. Did I gain that much? I don't know about over stock numbers but definitely over old plugs!

I think the coil on plug design is ruthless on plugs. The electrodes on the Bosch's were burned up!!!!!! No kidding. Freaking burned up. Real good burned up.

I also moved the IAT sensor back to just behind my CAI filter which is getting a more accurate reading for temp.

Do both of those things make that large of a difference??? With a CAI, lower gears, 5spd, TPS@.65v, delete 3rd cat with Dynomax 2.5 dumped before the axle, I spanked a 01' Mustang GT 5spd Bullitt with a 175 lb driver against mine with 2 200 lb people in it. By 3rd gear I was walking him. My setup is 3:55 lsd, with 25" tall tires BFG Comp TA's at the time. That's about like a 3:92 with factory tires. Seems pretty quick to me.

Which Iridium plug did you get? I went to NGK's site and they show the OE Laser Iridium and the Iridium IX. I'm assuming you got the Iridium IX?

Note: Who cares if the post is 4 years old...It's good to see an current update on an old post. I'd like to see an update on some of the old post about the SSB brake conversions that has been on for 3 years or so.

It's easier to search the board for solutions if more people would update and continue old threads, rather than starting multiple threads to identical problems.

That's my opinion anyway.

I got whatever they sold me, I didn't look.

The truck really seems a little torquier after the plugs swap, but the motor really seems to be very temp sensitive. I should get a colder t-stat I think to keep her cooler.

Yesterday it was about 65 out and it had a real fat torque at the bottom of the gear even in 4th in slow traffic. I definitely noticed that.

BTW: That guy replied to the 4 year old post too, smart guy. He he.

I want some cams and headers next and a tb and an intake manifold. I'm about to put 3:92's in to replace the 3:55's. I also have 27" tall tires and the factory's are 29. That's like a 3:72 on factory tires, so she'll be nice and quick with the new gears.

Well i guess your right, you got lots of responses. I have a kenne bell and they came with the denso's. I have not had a single problem with pinging. I would also recomend going right to the 4.10's, I did and had 355's and the difference is amazing.

Yeah,

I think with 12 lbs of boost coming to a 4.7 near me soon the 3:92's should do just fine with the manual and 27" tall tires. NICE and QUICK.

That truck is retarded fast to just have the few mods I've got. I had some fun drying it off after a wash today, and that's no six-banger under there!
