I have a 95 Sport with 2.5 5-speed

When I was taking apart the stock airbox I came across a little, ummm, flapper valve(?). I know that it's operated by vacuum. But how can I get rid of it. One time the vacuum line came unhooked and tripped the auto shutdown fuse. So I know I cannot just do that. I assume that the valve opens up when at cruising speed?

What is this thing and how can I bypass it?

Doesn't that "flapper valve" allow heated air into the intake? I beleive that there is a 'secondary' intake path that draws air over the exhaust manifold to heat it up. The flappervalve allows some of this heated air into the intake plenum.

On some vehicles, the flappervalve is "throttled" by a thermal sensor upstream to maintain a constant intake air temperture.
