I have a 5.2 98 CC 2wd.
Mods are:
1.7 rockers
KN intake GEN II
Header amd cat back exhuast ( still have stock why pipe would I notice a big difference from a bigger one)
IAT
Quick D throttle body
MSD Ign/Taylor wire Borg warner cap and rotor 3923 plugs

I want to get an intake any recommendation from the M1 to Hughes modified intake. Which would be best suited for my aplication. Also how of a gain would you get from porting and polishing your heads. Thanks

The M1 2BBL MPI works much better than the modified factory manifold.

Porting the heads and bowl work will work but polishing isn't necessary unless you're running alcohol or Nitromethane. ("Porting and Polishing" is a term rather abused nowadays.) ;)

The 1.92 valve R/T heads will easily outflow any ported set of factory heads as well.

How much are the RT heads. Will this be a direct bold or will I have to modify some things. How much of a total gain can you get by doing this Would this be smog legal as far as the heads are concerned I know the M1 is illegal in Cali. I am thinking off putting new injectors in are Ford motor Sport # 19 my best bet. Thanks

If the y-pipe looks smooth with no crimp or bad bends (like my 97) leave it in.Sounds like you want to keep it carb legal and I dont't know if the R/T heads are but they are easy to see.The intake from Hughes looks like a good option. If you don't plan on a big cam and just want more TQ porting the factory heads and saving the money for other mods sounds like a wise choice. If you look at the flow bench #'s from Hughes they make the stock heads look good with a good street cam, with the 1.7's your lift is about .450" with the stock cam.It takes alot of grinding to get the stock heads to flow that good and $1175 is high for head porting but these guys are good at it.If you plan on trailering it to the strip the go nuts--ported R/T heads, big cam,4.56 gears.....
