when i changed to a high flow cat, the exhaust guy said my truck was running lean. (the cat was red) i pulled the #1 plug and it too looked like the truck was running hot.

i replaced both of the o2 sensors, and noticed a nice increase in throttle response. well 3 days agao the "check engine light" came on.
NOW WHAT?
i have tried the on,off,on,off to get a code, but i guess it dosent work on the 98's

any ideas?

Probably has to do with the cat. I have read that the high flow ones will sometimes turn on a check engine light. If it is the cat turning on the light then you will have to get a kat-box from speed tweaks.

Pull the ground cable from the battery and turn the key to the start position and hold for 20sec then reconect the battery(hehehe), this resets the computer. The stock plugs run white to grey.

A glowing cat is an indication of a miss ie too much fuel into the exhaust and it burns in the cat. Too lean and all you do is lose power, well maybe take out an exhaust valve eventually. Not sure on the 98 right off hand but obdII cars will sense a misfire and turn on the light.

if it were running too rich the plugs would be black...right? mine look are white/redish, which indicates it is running hot.

well i took it to a shop and the guy used a scan tool and scanned the PMC.
he said that i must have been driving around while low on gas for a while (sounds like me ;) and it must have triggered the engine light.

ill keep it above the 1/2 tank mark and see if it comes on again. i hope not
