I have done them both but they were on the V6. Plugs made no noticable difference. The truck is running much cooler with the tstat but thats all ive noticed that its done.

The effectiveness of the 3923's on the 4.7 is debatable. The thermostat is a very easy install that can help a small amount. It does run quite a bit cooler now. I don't know that I actually gained any hp or that my track times got any better but it sure doesnt hurt.

Check out my site about the thermostat.

I read somewhere about using shims so that the gap of the sparkplug faced the injector for a better burn. Any of you folk know 'bout this? or is it a bunch of hokum?

Hokum it is...... the injector is up in the intake runner. The best you can do is make the plug electrode face the intake valve. Pretty complicated without taking the heads off. Lots of NHRA pro's do it (almost all I guess), but we won't see much gain on the street. I did, however see about a .5 mpg gain and get a little kick in the pants from the 3929's. It was a very subtle hp increase, but I can now get 21 mpg @ 80 mph with the windows up. 4.7L, 3.55 posi rear, 5-spd, Interstate 85 North thru GA, SC, NC. Not bad for a 4200 lb truck.

Not only will it run cooler but theoretically speaking it should consume more fuel, reason being, your temp sensor recognizes the engine running a little cooler causing the engine to run richer. Has anyone with the thermostat mod encountered this mpg loss?

Ya Dr Q its indexing your spark plugs its one of those little extras you can do to get the most out of your burn just mark the opening of the electrode on the outside of the plug and get it to face the incoming fuel charge with shims
