Subject: Questions about a clutch

Message:
The clutch in my 97 5.2 4x4 has about had it (86000 miles) and I am getting ready to replace it on friday. My question is, Does anyone think it is worth the extra money to put in a Centerforce clutch?? My truck is lightly modified and I do offroad quite a bit but I'm not sure that it warrants the centerforce clutch. Anyone got any input on this??

my mods are....

K&N FIPK2
Mopar cat back 3in.
High flow cat
Black magic electric fan
FMS 19# injectors
8.5 mm spirocore plug wires
Borg Warner cap and rotor
180 degree thermostat
autolite 3923 plugs

I'm not real familiar with high performance after market parts, I'm guessing that's what the Centerforce clutch is, if so I would just get another stock clutch. the clutch is the weakest point in a drive train, if that slips a little it's ok but you get a stronger clutch it might not be as forgiving, possibly causing something else to break. Your clutch lasted this long even with the mods if it only last another 50,000 it's still cheaper than replacing a tranny or rear end. Just something to keep in mind.

Tard, i would go with a centerforce stage I, it has 30% more holding force than a socker and sounds good for your setup. if you are going to replace something you might as well get it better than stock.

just wondering, did that high flow cat do anything for you? as far as sound or performance.
and what about the injectors?

Eric

Go with the Centerforce Dual Friction, I've used one before and it was great-lighter pedal than stock, holds much better,et. One of my friends uses one behind a built 318 and its been holding up to 6,000 rpm launches for about 4 years now with no complaints.

Thanks for the input guys. Kota, I put the high flow cat in the same time I did my exhaust and I did notice some more power in the higher RPM ranges, but Im not sure how much of that was cat and how much was exhaust. The fuel injectors are GREAT! Im not sure if mine were bad but I noticed a big improvement in power, throttle response, and my engine runs much smoother and more consistent. I would deffinately recomend the injectors.

I race my Dakota and I'm looking for a little extra horsepower. Will the Flex-o-Lite 15" fan, part# 150, cool a 318 engine with A/C without the regular fan?

Would appreciate your input.

Ron
