Subject: Performance of 360° Intake

Ok folks, I have a 4.7L Auto with 2000 miles
on it. I installed a 360° intake and built a heat
shield out os 1'2 in foam core wrapped with
aluminum tape and duct work feeding cool air
directly to it. It seems that all I did was
increase the noise of the intake and added no
performance. Any suggestions on maybe
what I did wrong or need to do?
Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you tighened the clamps enough? You don't have any "leaks" do you?

I have a custom built heat shield (out of fiberglass) and I don't hear any residual noise out of mine... and I did have a better throttle response once the intake was installed.

Sounds like something ain't right with yours...

IDark, I don't think I have any leaks. Very good
rubber seals. How would I check?

2tonedakota, I don't know if it will help? But did you reset the pcm when you installed the intake? Speedtweaks recommends resetting it when you change your tb and stuff like that. The way I looked at it your changing the amount of air coming into it so why not. And also your computer will relearn after you drive for a couple of days they say so should get better as it adjusts. Here is a link to speadtweaks that tells how to reset the pcm and when it is recommended. It cant hurt put it that way. Also it talks about the re-adjusting after driving awhile. Hope it helps. Good luck,
Rick

Rick,

I have reset the PCM. The truck runs great just
not what I expected and when you give it
enough gas to "down shift" is when it make
alot of noise. I think it is a sucking air noise.
The people at 360° intakes say this is normal
but it seems like it is just making air noise
and not horsepower.

I put the 360 intake in my truck as well. Throttle response seems a lot better and it feels like its accelerating better, but it is noisy. I don't seem to be getting better gas mileage though - could be because my right foot has become heavier (it sounds nice). BTW through 6000 miles, I've been averaging around 16 mpg. In the 2 tanks since I've put on the 360, its been 16.3 & 15.3 (city/hwy - 50/50). I was hoping to do better with the new intake - maybe hwy mpg will be better.

I did a little testing this weekend at the Houston Race. I tested a 900 cfm K&N cone filter attached directly to the throttle body. I ran several times and it showed on every run to be .3 slower than the G-Forced true cold air intake. I have a cowl induction hood and was running with a fairly cool motor. I have talked to several people with home brew systems that have seen better results with the filter directly attached to the throttle body. With our 2 mpg gain, we are seeing awsome results with this new TRUE cold air system.

I've only installed 2 performance-related items on my truck: A 360airintakez intake and a 40-series flowmaster muffler (still running the 2.5" pipe). My truck -definitely- has more power that can be felt whenever I stomp on it - I chirp 2nd gear (auto trans) regularly at WOT and can light up the R/T 17's with ease. I do hear a bit of a whistle similar to a turbo at times, might be a small leak that I'll have to investigate. The workmanship and durability (I live in vegas so it gets HOT) of this intake is superb.
