The question: Truck did not come with tach. I have an aftermarket one.
Red wire-power
Black wire-ground
White wire-hot when ign. on
Green wire- goes to coil
How the heck do I hook up the wire to the coil. Everywhere I go people always write "We're lucky because there is an unused tach lead" or something to that effect. How can I hook it up????

To the power side of the coil. Where the connector is on the bottom side. Not sure which wire try one if it doesn't work then try the other.

This is going to sound stoopid. I really do know about cars ( I have a 73 Charger also) but I'm new to the truck. Anyway, off the top of your head, where in the engine bay of the 2.5 is the coil located. I would go look for myself but I'm not anywhere near to the truck. IF you cant remember it's cool, I'll do it tommorow.

You want to hook the coil wire up to the negative side of the coil. To check for power youll have to have somebody else to crank the motor or to cycle the key on and off because after 2 seconds the pcm shuts off power to the coil. Just use a test light on the wire while cranking to check. Once you know the wire just clip it and sauder your new wire in line with it.

You have a distributor?

Follow the top (center) wire. That generally ends up at the coil.
