 Subject: S10 Extreme Race?

Guys there is this little cocky guy here in town that has a 2001 V6 4.3 S10 Extreme, its got a shift kit, Power programer Chip, K&N Cold Air Kit, and possibly some stuff I dont know about but he swears no nitrous or power adders like that and he wants to race me in the Quarter mile. I dont know what gears he has or anything of that nature just that that little thing will run for what it is! Can I beat him in my 2001 4.7 2WD 5-speed 3.92 geared Dak?

I'm leasing one myself, and in 9 months and counting it's gone, then comes the Dakota woohoo but to answer your question, I'll tell ya what with the mods he has you better not Fuk up a shift or he will take ya and like most extreme owners (not me though)they think there the sh!t so don't let him win you should still be able to take him because the drivetrain is the same as a regular s10 so don't let the skimpy fog lights intimidate you.

Allow me to play devils advocate here. How good are you at spotting nitrous kits? Because I can't help feeling he's calling you out for a reason. Might be a good Idea to check out his baby to make sure it's not bottle fed.

I havent got to scope out his ride completely but he dosent have a tonneau cover so theres no bottle in the bed, and well I dunno where he would put one in the cab cause its a regular cab truck unless its one of those sneaky pete systems and then that wouldnt be much of a boost, but Im gonna request looking under his hood the next time I see him out and hes tapping the roof! Im sure I could spot some solinoids or something if hes got spray, or atleast a place where hes tapped into the induction for one of those dry sytems.

A freind that I work with has a RC extreme with a 4.3L auto. When I first got my Dak he wanted to race so one night we went to the track and I made one run and showed him my time slip.... He still won't race with me. His truck has a cold air intake and exaust and it runs consistent 15.50s.So you can beat him BUT you better not srew up!!!

A friend of mine just bought a 2001 S-10 with a 4.3,5 speed , and a 3.73 or 4.10 with a posi. About a week ago he drove my girlfriends '99 dakota 318 , auto , 3.55, with a cold air system he said that the dakota is way stronger than his S-10, the drivetrain between his and an extreme are the same.

his ass by the tyme i hit second gear, i pulled
away. Race him, who cares if you lose, your

I have to speak up here.. FORD doesn't suck worse then Chevy.. I had a F-150 b4 I got my Dak and it rocks it was only 4x2 but I went on some trails w/ a Z71 & a 4x4 Toyota and ended up pulling out the Toy twice Neither I or the Z71 got stuck... but he sure came close just kind of inching along threw some mud.. I was the only one that didn't have any problems and I had a 4x2. So... Dakota, Ford, Chevy, Toy.

there are not many things out there that can keep up with our trucks off of the line. we have the best rearends in the industry. On my 318 RC 3.92, it bytes hard with no spin if I hold it about 1100 to 1300 and drop it and stomp it but your tires have to be a little sticky. as for the 4.7 I have no idea that is a more hp motor so I would say a 2000 drop would be sufficent not a pro but. I telling you this b/c this is going to be a close one man but you can easily pull it off. Just by the start!!!!!!

I agree with the others, You can win just dont F-up a shift. I had a 4.7 5spd 3.92 and race my friends x-treme a few time, I'd always win in the long run, but if i was screwin around he'd take the launch. As far as NOS i beleive it is a state by state deal, but for CA it is LEGAL to transport a bottle, but you can not have it hooked up to the line, even if it is turned off. Otherwise its ticket time.

Work the numbers! Compare HP to weight ratio. Do it for the torque as well. The one with fewer Lbs. per hp will normaly win. While gearing does make a difference you will normaly find most final drive ratios fairly close in any given class and catagory orf vechile. P.S. Do not screw up a shift and I hope you know how to power shift.

hey I have a 2000 extreme w/ full dual exhaust, jba headers, functional ram air ss hood 5 spd 4.3v6, 3.73 richmond rear, exhaust has 2-1/2 piping. my timing was reprogrammed to 14 deg. initial/ w/ 36 deg. of total timing. my brother has a 2001 rt dakota w/ full dual exhaust , kn air intake. cervini ram air hood that is functional automatic w stock gears. we both do not have catalitic converters. my truck runs consistent 13.7s while his runs 14.0s his is faster on takeoff , but mine has moere top end so I would assume that if this guy is a good driver he will win, but if he's a dumbass you will win, so just make sure u get him on the take off , I seriosly doubt that he has mods that are serious // s10s are slow with what you say that he has.

Now I might be new to this mod vs time buisness but if a stock eXtreem runs 15.5 your gonna need alot more than a chip and exhaust to get it to 13.7.
And the R/T will probobly need more than a fancy hood K&N and exhaust to get to 14.0.

From what I have read the Xtream runs low 16s especially without a experienced driver. BTW Dr.Q, what altitude do you run those numbers at?

I've got a 75 shot of nos on my '01 xtreme. It runs fairly well. It's single cab, 4.3, 5 speed, fleet bed, and I lowered it a couple inches more. I've gotta say that my time slip in the 1/8th mile was 8.4 @83mph. I haven't run the 1/4 yet because the closest track is 2 1/2 hours away.
If you really want to know, if you're in a dodge dakota with the big v6 or the small v8, you will beat the xtreme unless he's sprayin. So don't worry bout the little guy unless he's got something up his sleeve.

I'm not sure what the altitude is here. I'm on the PA/NY border I think between 700-1200 ft. This last weekend I came upon the realization that drag racing is more frustrating than golf. I mean you make these small changes measure the results and after a dozen tries you get a set of numbers you're happy with. Then you spend two dozen tries trying to beat it. While these are my best times the zone with the current set up is 0-60 (6.20-6.45) 1/4 mi (14.75-14.95) @ (94.7-97.1)This is probobly more indicative of its performance. But posting your best numbers is cool, kinda like whipping out the choad and sayin' this is what I'm packin'. Just wanted to see if with what I've learned on the board amd a minimal amout of money what kind of performance you could get. Don't know 'bout you but it impressed the hell outta me. Don't think I'm gonna do much to it til spring, snow can really ruin your ET.

Yeah I am waiting for spring and hopefully try the 72mm TB and the 4" intense Z-tube. Yes I am impressed with the performance. I was just curious because I am at 3000 feet. Haven't made any runs yet.
