Hey Mike;

I saw your post and was wondering if anybody actually does this. This is the first time that I have seen this so I had to check it out for myself. Oh by the way I don't know what model you have but on my 98' 3.9 it is located on the driver side of the TB and has a two bolts on it. I have not tried this yet b/c I wanted to know if this worked or not. Anybody know!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you can but we did it a different route:

We drilled the brass inserts out on the TPS and set the voltage about .15v more than stock. This takes a steady hand and a DVOM to do it right.

Word of caution: If you've never done this and don't feel comfortable drilling out your TPS inserts...don't do it.

So Bernd;

On the KRC web site they say that they set it between 0.8-0.9. Is this too much. You said .15 over the stock and the stock is suppose to be between 0.4-0.5 according to the KRC website. Also does this do anything to the way it shifts(auto). Crisper or does it not have any effect. What do you think about the shift kit by transgo?

Richard.

Thanks for the info

What happens when the TPS goes out.
I have a problem with my 97 v6. It will start
fine for about 30 seconds then die like starved for gas. If you pour some gas in the TB it will
run fine until gas is used then die. I have already replaced fuel pump didn't help at all.

Usually .9 will set a TPS too high code, so I keep it around .8 to .9 and see what the PCM does. If it sets the code, I back it off slightly. I also have found that different sensors from different years will give different results. The only way to get voltages that high is to drill out the inserts and sometimes relieve more from the housing. That how we have always done it. This will give you better throttle response and to affect your shift points/ firmness, adjust the TV cable at the throttle body.
Jholman...disconnect the TPS sensor and you see what it does after start. It will start fine but try to rev the motor and it will die. It sounds like you have a MAP sensor issue.

Do the '97-'02 TPS sensors have the same voltage as the '92-'96 TPS sensors? I have one on the way out on my '99 and the dealer wants $90 for the newer style and $14 for the older style. If they have he same voltage I'm thinking about soldering in the connector from and earlier magnum and using the older style sensor.

It's the resistance window that is different on some sensors, I cannot tell you if the two you have are drastically different, try it..nothing will be hurt.

I'll probably give it a shot , I saw a few Dodge vans with Magnums in them the other day at the junkyard so I may go snag a connector from one this week.

I noticed that Autozone has the Wells brand of TPS sensor for the 5.9L (#tps333) for $25.99. Anyone tried that, seems a lot cheaper then the factory price.

They also have the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) for $29.99.

Not sure about the map sensor, but I'm sure if they have it, it will be cheaper then the factory.

I've got an '02 4.7L and have the TPS at .76V. Definitely notice a better throttle response. It was .51V from the factory.

Same with mine. Factory=0.50, adjusted=0.74. Much better off-idle performance.

Is the throttle position sensor the same thing as crank position sensor? Just had this put on my 1992 Dakota.

They're not the same thing. Don't know too much about 92's, but the throttle position sensor should be on your throttle body.

I need some help I dont want it to get it any worse and tear something else up

Beck,

I have seen the TPS sensor fix the problem you have described, if you set your cruise at 70mph and you notice the trucks rpms go up and down by 200 to 300 rpms then replace the TPS sensor with one from autozone for $30 and be done with it!

I had a similar problem with the revs. They flashed the tcm (???) and replaced some solenoid for torque converter. Anyway it did the same thing for a while and then went away after a few hundred miles. Sorry no diffinitive answer but that's what happened and it was the torque converter.

Thanks for the info. I ordered a tps from autozone and am waiting on it to come in and if that don't fix it I guess i'll check the torque converter and does tcm stand for torque converter module? I don't know and how much did that cost you Rosco
Thanks for the help guys and I will let ya'll know if the tps fixs my problem
